Restore Missing Stereo Mix - Conexant Smart Audio HD

I'm working with a Toshiba C55-C laptop and trying to get the Stereo Mix to work as a recording device.
It does not show up in Sound > Recording, even with both "Show" boxes checked.

I have tried different drivers from the Toshiba website. No change.

I understand there may be a registry fix to restore the Stereo Mix.
Can anyone here point me to one?
    Any other ideas?

Hi, forgive the basic question- are you certain your sound card supports it? If there's no one here with a similar model, best check that on Toshiba's site/forum first if you haven't.

Put another way, have you ever had stereo mix available on it e.g. pre-Win 10?

You might try ticking the bottom two boxes

Go to Cortana and type in "Audio"

You will get several audio options. See if you can find your audio mixer, if you have one.

    OR

Right tick on the little speaker (lower right) and select "Recording Devices" you might find something there.

Hi Guys, thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately, this is not your plain vanilla "Where is my Stereo Mix" question.

Dalchina: Unfortunately I can not say for certain whether this laptop ever had the SM. It came with W10 on it and I set it up for the owner a couple years ago. I am working on this problem with her remotely, so there will be a lag between any suggestions and my response.
I can't imagine that I would not have set Stereo Mix as the default recording device when I set it up however, or would have forgotten that it didn't have one, but I can't know this for sure.
Stereo Mix does not show, even greyed out, and yes, both boxes are checked (Show Disabled Devices, Show Disconnected Devices).

Layback: Nothing to show no matter which way I get to it!

Is there anything to the web rumor that the Stereo Mix is being removed from newer driver packages due to recording industry pressure?

Hi, your first port of call as I suggested above is to determine whether it has hardware supporting this. I had a laptop that definitely didn't. Until you know that for sure, it's not worth proceeding further IMHO.

    OK. Problem solved.

For those dealing with this issue here is a link to the solution.

It is a registry edit that adds the Stereo Mix back into Windows functionality.

This issue is truly annoying. The idea of selling crippled PCs and OS by design is despicable.
