Lock Screen to Logon Credentials not working as desired

The recent upgrade(s) of my Windows 10 Pro sees Version 1709 and OS Build 16299.19 loaded. My original settings of not seeing the lock screen picture not appearing on the logon screen has seen the lock screen picture not being displayed at all, instead it is just a plain colour. However if I allow the logon screen to appear on top of the lock screen picture, then the lock screen picture is visible. A change the picture, even to one of the defaults, it still doesn't work as desired.

Suggestions to resolve this issue welcomed.

    Hi trolleybus.

Please fill in System Specs, include Windows 10 version and build number at

Are you using this tutorial to make the changes or are you doing something with a tweaker program or registry edit?

Change Lock Screen Background in Windows 10

If I'm reading this correctly .... You want the lock screen of your choice to appear. Then when you go to login you want the image to disappear and I guess just have the User Accounts and the Password Box, correct.

Yes indeed, by using an inbuilt feature found in Settings. If you go to Settings >> Lock Screen and scroll down there is a switch for "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen". By default it is set to ON. Until the latest round of MS Updates the choice of OFF would see the sign-on screen as a separate page, i.e. without the chosen background picture.

Now if you select OFF the background picture does not appear at all. So what am I to make of this, is it a Windows bug or something wrong with my PC? I am inclined to go with the bug theory because every PC I have updated means that this feature no longer works.

So how do we go about restoring this feature?

You likely have found a bug, if I'm reading you correctly. Other PC's that you updated are doing this as well, correct?

If so use the Feedback Hub to report it. Who knows, maybe next month cumulative update will address.

Yes. After all the latest patches have been applied, the issue as reported is present.

Interestingly if you fail to complete the logon credentials, then after a period of time the logon screen closes and displays a page with the time and date AND the selected background picture and everything works as in the past. Following a shut down and later boot up we are back with the "bug" present.

Care to select this option to see if the problem is replicated on your PC?

I have exactly the same issues (posted it in my own Thread).
I have upgraded two PCs (Home) and one Surface Pro 3 (Professional). All of them show the same bug. Always this bl... Mountain Lake appears, doesn't matter if you select another picture from MS or your own one.
If you just Logoff, sometimes your selected picture appears, but after a reboot, the lake is back.

DIsabling Cortana seemed to solve the issue on Windows 10 Home 1709. But the lake is back again...

I deleted a registry key and this solved my problem on Windows 10 Pro. I still have to check Home version.
