Guys, any of you familiar with Adobe Illustrator? I have a vector graphics file (gigantic!) that needs editing, I've never even installed Illustrator.

Windows 10 Pro x64 FCU - XP/Vista/Win7/Win8.1 in VM for testing

It's similar to CorelDraw! on steroids, with a very expensive price tag to go with it.( and it's now part of the Full Adobe Creative Cloud so you are looking at anything up to 100+ Euros (a month)
It's mostly used for creating Vector Images in the advertising trade so exponents are quite rare

There is an Open Source Clone vector editor that I did have a play with a long time ago Draw Freely | Inkscape which may allow you to edit an Illustrator File (.AI) or the universal SVG format.
I think some of the wallpaper making members here have some use for vector editing so hopefully one will be along soon

    Hi Kari

Since Illustrator image files are saved in a vector format, they can be enlarged without losing any image quality. Some third-party programs can open AI files, but they may rasterize the image, meaning the vector data will be converted to a bitmap format. To open an Illustrator document in Photoshop, the file must first have PDF Content saved within the file. If it does not contain the PDF Content, then the graphic cannot be opened and will display a default message, stating, "This is an Adobe Illustrator file that was saved without PDF Content. To place or open this file in other applications, it should be re-saved from Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option turned on."

If anyone wants to play, Google for free sample Adobe Illustrator files. Of the software I have, PaintshopPro rasterizes them, and LibreOffice Draw makes a pig's ear of the vector format. Or, more accurately, renders a perfectly circular apple as a square.
