... PS:
If you're talking about the Universal File Explorer, (UWP), then yes, it is dreadfully revolting and disgusting and useless!
Whilst you can set a 3rd party manager such as Dopus or XYplorer as your default file manager, there is no guarantee whatsoever that you will not still encounter file explorer or windows that look like an instance of file explorer.
Why?
a. Some applications may have a call to Windows file explorer hard coded, rather than using the reference to the default file manager.
b. Some applications display a Window that resembles file explorer but is in fact not (e.g. open/save dialogues.
(The same principle applies to your internet browser- even if, say, Firefox is set as your default browser, sometimes Edge or even IE will appear).
Sorry, but answering this one would REALLY end up in the rant category which according to someone above was not taken kindly to. And it would mean skating dangerously close to the limits of the politeness line, towards the designers of said contraption, no impoliteness towards forum members suggested or implied.
This question is completely reasonable. The point is to find out, what you find wrong about it, so a proper advise can be suggested. If you are bothered with telemetry, that can be blocked with a firewall/HOSTS. If you want tabs, there is Clover 3 and Tab Explorer. If you do not like GUI, 3rd party software is the only option.

For what it's worth...
I pin everything I frequently access to 'Quick Access',
I use 'Old/New Explorer/Ribbon Disabler',
I also use "QTTabBar", which not only gives you tabbed Explorer, but jump lists and mouse hover previews on just about everything plus a host of other features!
(I also run Stardock 'Windows Blinds' and 'Icon Packager')
Explorer looks, functions and performs quite well. Does everything I desire of it! (Unless I've got a buggy Insider Build!!!)
The IP/Insider Preview part makes a big difference, one can expect "bugs" or things that don't work right especially when third-party programs are involved. After all, it is still a Test/BETA version, at least for a few weeks longer. I have 2 older computers running IP and because of the type of clients I have am not into working with third-party utilities unless and until I'm asked to do so.
