thought that would do the trick, always did for me. You still on 1709, I guess?

Not sure why you needed those background apps, I've had success with them turned off. But doesn't hurt to cover all bases.

The one thing that's essential (and that I tend to forget) before running the script is to set the Lock Screen to anything other than Spotlight. Oh, that and a little patience, it can take a while for Spotlight to get going again after the reset.
Hi, nope I'm on 1803; without Edge running as a background app no new images will be downloaded if you empty Assets folder,
breaking Spotlight (as it was in my case).

Interesting. There must be something more to this - I have 1803 too, my 'Let apps run in the background' is ON, but the only background apps I allow are Weather and Windows Defender Security Centre. My latest images in Assets were downloaded on 19th May, today Spotlight is showing the last of those.

I never manually empty my Assets folder, perhaps that's part of it. The older ones seem to be cleared automatically as new ones arrive. If Edge is an essential part of this process, perhaps mine kicks in when Edge is running in the foreground? Who knows, MS certainly aren't telling. I'll watch keenly to see what happens tomorrow. :)

For 1709 I had to put the reset .bat permanently on my desktop for quick access when needed. It's still there, so if I need it the day after tomorrow I have it to hand. As I said, for me Spotlight in 1803 has been working faultlessly since 30th April...

I remember, only once - when Spotlight was seriously broken, there was a suggestion to empty assets folder..

Yes, that was part of the 'fix' and Brink's tutorial does that (and more).

On it's own, I've never found it to be sufficient to fix a badly broken Spotlight. Back in 1607 I seriously broke Spotlight by some injudicious manual changes (I was trying to 'un-like' an image that had got stuck there until I got sick of seeing it). An in-place repair install was the only fix for that

The solution of EVUS on page 1 worked for me too!
Thank you! Spotlight is working again.
