If you want a faster/easier solution, look into iconoid. Freeware and lightweight. Its how I fixed mine when I was using a larger monitor. If you set it to anything over 100% on zoom, they do that. If they are doing that on 100%, and you don't want to keep fighting it, just use that app.

I use a pay for app called DeskTop Toy, you can arrange your desk Icons then save the config and even save multiple configs. It gives you the choice to align to Top or Bottom or either side even.

I am curious as to how these apps will serve to correct the problem, or potentially add to it.

Iconoid definitely will not add to it. It will, however, resolve this issue. I can personally vouch for it, as I have used it previously.

The 'flash' reported may be indicative. If the taskbar also goes blank and rebuilds, this is most likely explorer crashing. If so, then check e.g. Reliability History.

Since this has been happening since upgrading to the Creator's build, that suggests an incompatibility.

I would first check the event logs/Reliability History - having noted the time of one of these events, then if necessary try a clean boot and work from there if no issues after a clean boot. Otherwise it could be a driver incompatibility.

My guess is that using a 3rd party solution may stop the icons moving, but not the flashes.

Note: desktop icons moving around has been reported by some users on Windows editions from at least Vista on. It isn't intrinsic to Windows per se, but appears to be an annoying weakness. (I haven't had this happen- yet..!).

Well to be clear the app that I mention allows you to lock your icons in whatever place you put them. Really helpful if you like em to stay put. Save multiple profiles for different backgrounds and change the color of the text or even remove the text or the icon. LOL.

I hope it works! We have to see and wait back if the thread starter would like to obtain your app.

    Desktop Icons won't stay put...-icons.png

Just remove the checkmark by the red arrow and your Icons should stay put on your Desktop.
