Hello Tenforums community , Can we change FileExplorer (windows explorer) background from white to Grey color.
Currently I am using windows 7 , and I it we can install third party themes. I use this theme
    http://aaron-a-arts.deviantart.com/a...ATED-317882595
It is not hard on eyes. But it do not work on windows 8 and 10.
    (For 8.1 I used https://skinpacks.com/adobe-blue-lin...-for-win788-1/ and http://sagorpirbd.deviantart.com/art...inal-430847005
But both also not works on windows 10)
I also tried regedit methods to change values of Colour and Desktop/Colours , but nothing works. Please someone help.
We developers have to work continuously on laptop and with white background our eyes hurts.
(Also I use Pangolin Screen brightness software to dim brightness , just in case someone want to know :).
    My current theme

hello edwin! i hope you're fine i'm new here! i hope you helpme by showing me how can i create a high contrast theme like the one you posted yet in this thread
please give me a tuto! i need it
    Hello @mazangeloo, welcome to tenforums.com! :)

    - Add "Personalization Classic", (compiled by our esteemed Mr. @Brink), to your Desktop right click context menu:

'Personalize (classic)' context menu - Add in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

    - Turn Off color and transparency in Settings:

    - Ensure your "parent" theme is Windows default, then switch to High Contrast Mode using your new right click menu:

    - Using your new Menu again, choose 'Color and Appearance':

    - then click on each item to change colors:

I use 3 - 4 colors maximum for High Contrast themes because 'style' is quite limited in High Contrast mode, so, using too many colors, it tends to start looking messy.
    In this example there are 4 basic colors which you can adjust by entering the values as per the following screenshot;

1- Hyperlinks, Disabled text (different month in the Calendar for example), and Selected/Mouse Hover text, 101-122-105
    2- Windows background color, 75-75-75
    3- the remaining text, 255-255-255
4- Window title bars and buttons, (these must match so the Taskbar, Start Menu and Calendar match), 48-58-50

    How to change FileExplorer(windows explorer)background to Grey-000169.png

Once you have adjusted the colors, click Apply and Save Changes, then restart Explorer.
You should end up with something similar:

    Enjoy! :)

Hi, I quite agree starting at glaring off-white backgrounds is hard on the eyes, and MS took away the ability to change that from Win 8 on.

Aa really neat way to change this in explorer is to install freeware Qttabbar
    QTTabBar - QuizoApps

This gives you full control of different regions of the explorer pane (any colour you want) as well as adding tabs and other features. Also changes the control panel.
Some here, like me, have used it successfully. It survived the November TH2 upgrade.

To change the background of many other windows, you can do a small registry hack, well known from Windows 8 on - maybe earlier.

But which option in QTTBAR changes the right area in File Explorer where it is set to grey in your screenshot. I can't find one under Appearance . I can only change the color of the left section , the navigation section.

Under Appearance in the QTtabbar options, there's also a Folder View tab. I seem to recall vaguely there's one other obscure one- too many months ago.

I tried to install the After Dark CC and finally my explorer is not white, but it doesn't apply everywhere. For example my skype chat remains of the same color while when I choose for example high contrast it changes also the skype chat. Is it possible to apply the After Dark or whatever theme to all elements?

THANK YOU!! I've been looking for something that could change the background of my email too and this did the trick! With a 30 day trial and then only $10 for basic use, so worth it!

Hi, thank you all for you tips helped me a lot. Right now I am using a low contrast theme from Devianart in my Windows 10 PRO Anniversay (1607), today (thanks to you guys) I discover QTTabBar and PangoBright to reduce the brightness of my monitor, however I can´t change the background color of Word/Excel/PowerPoint, it looks like the trick of tweaking color in the registry it is not working in Anniversary edition

If anybody knows how to do it I will appreciate tell me why

If this helps to someone, I have discovered a way to surf the web and avoid "eye strain", you must use Chrome with 2 plugins
    1) G.lux: G.lux - Chrome Web Store Can change the temperature of the site and lowers the general contrast.
    2) Change Colors: Change Colors - Chrome Web Store
You can change the background and text color to taste, I use it with websites with black background and white texts.

PS: Please excuse my poor english, I speak spanish and the english it is not my language. Sorry
