It's finally clicked as to what's happening - I dealt with this about 3 years ago!
When you restarted without the gpedit changes the existing theme (without your colour) is reapplied automatically. Hence you lost the colour on restart. Had you saved your current theme with the colour applied (which is what I did), then you would have retained the colours on restart.
Yes I have saved the theme with the color tweaks applied, however everytime after reboot the colors changes again, when I checked the theme were applied a "no saved theme" (or something like that) not my saved theme, however after gpedit tweaks this never happen again (the colors and the theme selected remain)

I wonder if there has been a workable EASY solution to this problem?
I only have one eye (lost the use of my left eye in 2007) and I often find that the READING area to be far to bright for my sensitive eye.
Adjusting brightness, hueb etc does not really help.
Is there a very easy method of applying a medium to dark grey theme ONLY for the READING AREA without messing about with the registry? If the registry is the only path can someone kindly provide the STEPS on how I should proceed?

You can customise different regions of explorer (and the control panel). But other things like Wordpad and many other areas require a registry change - no GUI in Win 10 for that.

Qttabbar lets you customise different regions - you have to dig around for some of the options. The screenshot below shows the main ones.
Superfly's SMACC utility (free from this forum) can help there.
That registry hack is well-known- the problem being that resume from sleep removes it.
I have previously posted a workaround as to how to get round it- and there is a post 'somewhere' about a better way someone found.
Qttabbar just works - for explorer windows only. For other backgrounds (e.g. Wordpad, Notepad and many others) you need the registry hack.
