    Create Taskbar Icon: build number XXXXX.nnnn

    Like many Insiders, I see the watermark on the desktop, and it lets me know exactly what build I'm using, except if I am using a feature build or one that Microsoft has not included a watermark for.

    Like many others I don't want a permanent watermark on every release, but rather than running Winver every time, wouldn't it be nice to have a taskbar icon to hover over just to show Major and minor build numbers.

    Can anyone of you PS geeks supply a script to do this?

    Since it's geeky, it might also be useful for the Icon, when clicked, after a /!\ warning with yes/no choice, to directly open Regedit to the registry key where the information comes from, i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

    Possible?

    I know that one can use this app to place it on the Desktop.

    Thanks for the suggestion JW, not quite what I really want. I could create a custom background for the calendar, I guess. Or there may be some way to raise a notification on startup.

    @Fafhrd

    Create a 'dummy' folder somewhere with Windows Version/Build number as the name and pin that as a 'New Toolbar' to your taskbar.

    That would not update from system information, Edwin.

    I settled on sysinternals BGINFO as a solution, which I can schedule to run at startup:
