Yes each file (long random name with no extension) is an image. Do not mess with the files in the Assets folder (you might break Spotlight). It's safe to copy one (or all) to another folder, give it a .jpg extension, then you can see it.

Seems to have hit a snag again. The sign in screen when i first boot up shows a still non-WS picture but the lockscreen shows a WS picture still. I've tried toggling the settings in Personalisation to no avail.

EDIT: Deleting everything in Assests folder seems to have solved it but unsure if thats just a workaround

Deleting everything in the Assets folder effectively clears the Windows Spotlight cache, and allows it to start fresh with the backgrounds.

If this cache was corrupted, it could explain why the images didn't automatically change for you.

    Ah right many thanks Bree.

Are there any other files or folders I can rename or delete to start afresh with windows spotlight without a Windows reinstall?

Apologies for the double post but is this normal in Assests folder? Its been on the same image since i deleted the contents of the folder you see but just wondering if each file represents an image?

That's correct. Each file represents an image from Windows Spotlight.

It can take a day (24 hours) for the image to change again though.

Ah I see many thanks. I will try to lock my PC more to see if the images change as normally I don't lock and just see the image on the sign in screen

Apologies for the bump but didn't seem worth creating a new topic. I had to reset windows last night due to a graphics TDR issue that made my PC unstable. Things seem to have quietened down now however Spotlight seems to not work. I have it enabled however there's no pictures in the Assetts folder. I have tried to re-, initialize the spotlight app using the command listed above but there's still nothing in the folder

Does it take a while to get working again? Unsure what to do to be honest. On the sign in screen the picture it's using is the non Spotlight one whereas the lock screen is the Spotlight one.

It may take 24 hours for a new Spotlight image to be saved.

Just to verify, do you still have Windows set to show your account's lock screen on your sign-in screen?
