You may have to re-install windows... sad to say, but troubleshooting this may take a lot more time than a re-install.

    Edwin,

This is getting crazy (in a fun way). I went into Add and Remove Programs to uninstall Classic Shell and I happen to see UXStyle as an already installed program!! It was version 0.2.3.0 So, I immediately tried to uninstall it so I could install v0.2.4.2. The Green splash screen came up. I hit "UNINSTALL' and I get the same error as when I tried to INstall it... "Uh, oh, something went wrong" and it would not uninstall. I am completely baffled, now. Any thought on this new development? Safe Mode maybe?

    JustDave
Go to the site and download the 0.2.3.0 version and run it to uninstall that version, then start over.

Just ran your scenario in reverse so, you might get lucky!

    Edwin,

I took Mystere's suggestion. I totally reinstalled 8.1 and upgraded to 10162 and was able to install UXStyles, FINALLY. I did all this because I love your Gun Metal Gray theme. Is there a way you can share it with us or give us a tut on creating styles for Windows 10 using UXStyles?

First of all, I'm not going to endorse UXStyle at the present time, too many failures! This is the third time trying it on Build 10162 or later and it messes things up pretty badly, however, you're welcome to play with it along with some suggested themes at your own risk.

    Secondly, the 'Gun Metal Grey' theme does not require UXStyle or patching;
simply copy this code into Notepad and save it as a .theme file, place that file into C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and run it:

    Code:

    Edwin,

in your earlier post you said:

My 'GMG' Theme, (Gun Metal Grey)
Gotta use UXStyle to get white title bar text though!

I wanted the white text to go with your GMG style

Oh, sorry! Yeah, you're right, that was the UXStyle version. Yeah, you have to use UXStyle to get the white text.
I'm having too many problems with UXStyle in W10 right now, but you can try it with or without.

The origin of my GMG theme starts with this theme:

Take my advice, ditch the UxTheme Patcher or UXStyle all together. If you read in Seven Forums and Eight Forums there are those that are pulling their hair out with this. It is just a shitty patcher with shitty coding, even if you get it installed when it comes time to uninstall is where the havoc will be created, 99.9% of the time a reset or refresh is the only way to rid yourself of it, DESPITE directions (that do not work) on how to remove (uninstall) it on the developers website. UxTheme Patcher did not work well with 7 and it problems continue and even get worse with 8 and 8.1, It breaks your system 90% of the time when Windows Updates are put out too, you need to disable it and select the default Windows theme every time you do Windows Updates, it's just a BIG hassel, save yourself the headache and just stay away from it.

There is a much better way to patch your system for third party themes, do a search of these forums and google for UxThemeSignatureBypass , this is a much more simpler way too run third party themes which you can have up and running in less than 10 minutes, just set it and forget it, no need to disable or uninstall it during Windows Updates and Windows Updates will not and cannot break it, you can even leave your third party theme running during updates, no need to select the default Windows theme.

After years of neglecting his program and poor programming of UxTheme Patcher (UXStyle) this is what Rafael gets ........ left in the dust because it is simply not needed anymore. And this probably would not happened if he would have just cared a little more about the product he was putting out.

    edee,

I'd like to take your advice, however, after what you just told me, I'm afraid to uninstall UXStyle...any suggestion how to uninstall it. It does show up in Add and Remove Programs.

That's a crap shoot too, you have about a 50/50 shot it will work, like I said the ONLY way I discovered to completely remove it from your system is a reset or refresh.

I really don't know why people recommend UxStyle or any derivative of it, it only causes more heartache than it's worth. When you download a file that is named : UxStyle_sep23_x86_x64_possibly_bugged.zip, that ought to tell you something.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, if it uninstalls cleanly for you great but more times than none it doesn't. In the past when I used it (UxStyle) I was doing refreshes on my system almost every time I wanted to change a theme or when new Windows Updates came out which was quite frequent, with the UxThemeSignatureBypass I have YET to have to do anything of the sort.
