Windows Defender... renames of executables would be out of the question.

You might try to turn off the tile text:
    Code:
    ShowNameOnSquare150x150Logo="off"
It wouldn't let me make changes to the XML file, now that it's in Program Files/Windows Defender folder.
But I did later find out, on a whim, when I go to C:\Users\Cliff S\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs (quickest way right click tile/More/Open file location), and change the name of the shortcut created by pinning, it changes the name of the tile shortcut too.

Save a copy and replace afterwards...

Sweet. This way is even better!

It worked for my Firefox too. I changed it from "firefox" to "Mozilla Firefox".

I had to reboot first to do it, because no changes were sticking.
After the reboot I went and changed the shortcut name,
then the tile disappeared for a second,
and refreshed itself with the new name.

So now we know, it wasn't a fluke and is repeatable.

You all are really good at this, you should be proud of your work.
On the high contrast themes how do you change the color of the thin white borders around all the windows, taskbar, scrollbar, ect? I must be missing them in the registry somehow, or is it an option(s) in SMACC?

Is there any chance that you geeks might compose an "icon pack" for us noobies, for the at least most popular / common third party software?

EDIT: I mean both a desktop icon pack and a Start tile pack

Ok that resize seems to work fine; as long as edge smoothing works.
I've learned a decent amount of the Gimp options I need, but I still don't know many of other options either.
Start with the basics you need: scales, transforms and in time you'll be up using more functions.
GIMP was always a bit weird to me as well. Mainly due to the layout and the way it worked. However, another good program is paint.net. It has a fair few more options and has a layout that is much easier to get around than GIMP was (this is just my personal opinion).

Paint.NET is an excellent program but somewhat limiting. I started with it before moving on to GIMP and now to Photoshop, Another good free program that @Stephanie likes is ChasysDraw http://www.jpchacha.com/chasysdraw/

I second that, Kari! I'd also like to have icons for extra hard drives and a few extra mouse cursors. :)

May be so for the layout.
Now I came to a point where I got used to GIMP's interface. There's no going back. :)
For instance, I'm not running on stock install: Partha's builds start with more plugins than usual. Then a few extra plugins of my taste + extra themes on top turns it into a Super GIMP.
Don't know about how many options are we talking about but GIMP with GMIC, GAP and FxFoundry alone boosts the option number a lot not, to mention the Script-FU extensions. It's true that as a beginner you get a hard time with the dense interface you won't even think about manual installs of extra plugins.
