    Lock screen slideshows nonfunctioning

    Hi all
Long time, no see! Anyways i'm having a problem with the lock screen on my laptop. I initially wanted to have the Windows spotlight feature run, and that is not working. (ie I set spotlight in Settings and it just keeps default background.) I then resolved to download the app SpotBright off the Windows store, this downloads the spotlight images onto the PC so you can set the lock screen to slide show mode and use that file. Its also cool because now I can use the windows spotlight images as my desktop wallpaper slideshow as well.

But - even setting the lock screen to slideshow does not work. The lock screen background stays defaulted to the default rock wallpaper, occasionally switching to the cyclist going down the hill above the clouds.

Basically, my lock screen background switcher is broken.

Any help is appreciated, cheers guys !

Hi, have you at any time disabled the lock screen? I believe that is what led to difficulty getting this working again. There are a good many reports of difficulty with this if you search.

I found that one thing that seemed to trigger spotlight into beginning to work again was to choose an app to show status on the lock screen

    Please also try
    Windows key + L
    (lock screen)
    and report what you see.

Lock screens appear in different guises: the one after a restart is different.

Yes, I had tried to disable it but they removed the capability in the anniversary update. I removed the GPO but that didn't do anything.

I changed the detailed status app to weather and that didn't do anything.

The lock screen both at startup and when i press win+l is just a static picture I set, despite spotlight being selected.

    Cheers

It seems to be extremely difficult to get this working again once broken. Mine is at least partially functional again, having been as you say just a plain picture with no 'Like what you see' prompt.

The problem occurred, I think, after I had tried disabling the lock screen. Presently, Win key + L gives me a normal lock screen with 'Like what you see' etc. I have disabled the need to login in after resuming from sleep in Settings.

One suggestion I came across in getting this working again was to delete all existing Spotlight images.

    That gives the location.

Of course, you may wish to create a backup copy of the folder first.

When I did that, pictures were added to the empty folder quite quickly.

Winaero has a method to disable the lock screen:
Disable Lock Screen in Windows 10 Anniversary Update version 1607 - Winaero
Best to use Winaero's tweaker for that.
