How to change file icons on desktop
If a file is saved on the desktop it is often not possible to change the icon associated with it. For example a pdf file usually has an Adobe Acrobat Reader icon which cannot be changed. However it is possible to change the icon if the file is saved elsewhere, for example in the Documents folder, and a shortcut is created on the desktop. Right click on the shortcut icon, click properties, click the 'shortcut' tab and then click "change icon".
My Win10 Desktop seems to have problems. I can copy a file to the desktop but no icon show for it. But pressing WindowsE shows it as present.
Is there any way to ensure the icon always appears ?

But i don't see that in Windows 10
Anyone know how to do it ?
I attribute this to the PSD codec installed Ardify to display thumbnails of .pdf files, and haven't find a solution so i habld to restablish windows from the begining and reinstall all again.
