You need another program. I don't know a way with Windows only. Try mp3tag.

    A thought for you.
An operating system per se provides a higher level of abstraction, separating the user from hardware.

Programs are then written using those interfaces to achieve specific aims. These are applications- applying the hardware and OS to achieve a particular goal.

MS provides the OS and certain applications. It does not provide applications which meet every person's needs, otherwise 3rd party programmers would be out of a job.
I understand, I had to ask because I was wondering why I couldn't edit or add metadata to an existing file in Windows10. A 3rd party program as mentioned in this thread is the only solution. :)

    Also known as 'perceived type'.

But if you use it in file explorer search
    e.g.

    1. Just the files- no search spec

    2. Search kind:text

    3. Search *ex*.* kind:text

I don't understand the screen shot and the programs you used in those screen shots. It looks as if you didn't use strictly FileMeta ?

The purpose was to give you an insight into 'perceived type.

If you look at the titlebar of the first three, the name of the program is clear.

I have taken the time to demonstrate to you how and where in the registry you may modify 'perceived type'.
You can now have the tools to use kind/perceived type. All free.

The file explorer shots following demonstrate the use of 'kind' in the search.

I wasn't trying to use File metadata.

The reason Windows only allows you to add change metadata for certain files like images, that metadata is stored in the file itself. To avoid data loss only files that can hold their own metadata are supported.

They decided not to go with the metadata system because of the complexity when it comes to transferring files from computers and storage and what to do with the metadata.

As I said, mostly just use mp3tag to tag files. Viewing tags is supporting to an extent by explorer if you add columns as appropriate.

1 freeware program, one set of columns.

Far fewer hoops than a game of croquet, if less fun.

I ask because there are two perceived types; I want to use, which are:
    • Importance & genre

Any of you familiar with multi word relative dates; this week, next week etc ?

As well can I also assume the days perceived type; days: Sunday,Wednesday ?
