    Why the shortcut shield will not removed in Windows 10 (14393)?

    I can remove the Desktop shortcut shield in Windows 10 using the method below
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
    Set the value
    77 = %systemroot%\system32\imageres.dll,197

    But when i updated my Windows 10 to the latest version (14393), the short shield will not be removed!

    The resource label might have been changed, extract imageres.dll to see the exact.

    Hello yxq, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

    If you mean the shortcut arrow overlay, then it should be a 29 string value instead like in OPTION TWO below.

    You need to modify imageres.dll as per the thread below and either follow the full tutorial on MDL but you will need to become a member to see it all or read the thread and you'll find the answer
