We are making progress: now when copying short cuts, the customized icons are maintained. But still not with folders.

A new Windows Update was downloaded today (May 9, 2017). Sadly, still no fix for this problem. I wish we could remove the update that messed everything up last year. Would anyone know how to do this?

Good to hear. [thumbs up emoji]

JMFJMF, if you got a notification in your email about this thread, and you still weren’t able to fix that issue (I’m assuming you found a fix, or moved on, etc, since it has been 5+ years since your last post (oof! That’s 5 earth revolutions around the Sun!!! Long time, haha)).
I have an alternate solution involving creating a desktop.ini file inside that folder, and editing that file in a certain way.

    Sure... why not

    I have a drive named: X:\

Here's a folder in that drive

Notice the folder icon (orange arrow pointing at it).

(this is what Desktop.ini is. It HAS to be ".ini", and not ".txt")

Here's the location of where I have that icon file:

    Hence, that folder's icon:

Are you using custom icons, or Windows' built-in icons?

    1) Right Click the folder you want to customize -> Properties -> Customize -> Change Icon...
    2) In the Icons window, select the icon you want
    3) Press [ALT + Print Screen Key] on your keyboard
    4) Down in the TenForums Reply section, press [Ctrl + V] on your keyboard to paste the picture, example like so:

I will replicate the same thing on my end, and see what code is used in the Desktop.ini file, and I will create the Desktop.ini file for you and upload it here. You can put it in your folder, and your folder should show the icon you want.

ALSO, if you want, you can create the Desktop.ini file, and I will paste here what you can copy/paste into that file, so you can see what is written in there.

    Hello,

Just posted a simple method in this other thread : Problem with icon folders

I discovered it by pure chance many years ago, and it's been the only successful way since !
