OK, I've created an issue in the Feedback Hub.

    feedback-hub:?contextid=66&feedbackid=d8ed91bb-b484-48a5-bb1e-672a71050235&form=1&src=2

The title is: "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen" does not work if you have disabled "Animate windows when minimizing and maximising"

NB. It wasn't clear if it had created the first time I posted so I posted again and now there are two :/ if anyone wants to upvote, can you upvote the one that does NOT say "duplicate" in the comments? Cheers!

I had the same issue but the "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" checkbox was already checked. So I unchecked it, tried again, then checked it again and the lock screen image is now restored. thanks!

Hey Guys found a solution on another forum.

    Most unintuitive indeed.
This worked for me and I hope will work for others experiencing this annoyance.
I have just figured out how to fix this bug in a very weird way.

If you go to your lock screen settings and turn "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen" off and lock your PC, you will see the background picture back. Log back in and turn it on and the issue happens once again. As expected... but if you follow the process above most of you will notice you already have this check box checked already. If you uncheck it and apply, lock your pc and log back in and recheck this setting and apply the issue will now be fixed!

Hello #TonyHondaFreak, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you turn on Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen, then making sure that you have Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing checked in your visual effects settings will fix the issue of the lock screen background not displaying properly.

It worked for me as well, seems to be fixed in Insider Preview.

The fix works for me, but what's frustrating is that each time I reboot, I get the black screen again. I have to recheck the "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" box each time after a restart for it to start working correctly. Also, my wife has a user (not administrator) account on my PC, and her account seems unaffected by this bug/problem.

This did not fix the problem for me. I have animate min/max and show lock screen on sign in, checked and it still starts black (but with the time and nice little text "A river flows down from this mountain" hehe)

    sigh

Seems nobody has a permanent fix for this problem since the solution in this topic is only temporary. Guess we have to wait for the next big update in 2017....

Ugh, this is so frustrating. Why is there a choice between animated windows and properly showing the lock screen background? Thank you guys for figuring out this bug in Anniversary Update, I'm now just disabling the background on the login screen, so at least my lock screen has it, but I'd rather both if that would work right, WITHOUT animated windows, because really, who wants to sit there watching windows minimize and restore?
