I'm not sure how to change the color of the sign-in screen without unwanted side effects yet though.
    Go to Settings/Personalization/Colors:

    Change color user login screen-000007.png

    Change color user login screen-000008.png

... restart Explorer and you should be good.

BTW, when you're done you could change these back to the way you want them:

Thanks Edwin. I thought that was what it should do, but it has no affect on my sign in screen for some reason.

Hmmm..., strange! Maybe you have to keep 'Show color on Taskbar and Start Menu' enabled; or resart the machine.
    Peculiar!

I thought it was odd as well, but that made no difference.

After I changed the Sign in screen color when using a local account and switched to a M$ account the colors changed to the synced colors that were saved when first setting up the machine and sync settings are always switched on by default when switching to a M$ account.

Just repeat the steps in Edwins Post #11 or follow Brinks tutorial in post #13 whichever is easier for you.

Another tip is to use the brightness slider to change the color, If you move the slider all the way to the left the login screen will be black (see below).

    Coloring outside of the lines.

I got fed up trying to make colors 'just right' given the limited set.

I fired up Win8.1, grabbed my saved theme and copied it to:

    %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes

Then I personalized the machine to use that theme.

I used Brink's All Tasks tut to grab my most often used CPL cmdlets and stuck them in a folder for easy access.
You can right click any cmdlet displayed by the All tasks tut to create a shortcut on your desktop.

This compressed folder has two shortcuts for color cmdlets (accets and background): cplColor.zip

    [QUOTE=Slartybart;240241]Coloring outside of the lines.

I got fed up trying to make colors 'just right' given the limited set.

I'm not tech gurus like the rest of you but I'm pretty savvy and VERY tenacious. Usually when I get hold of something I won't let go until I find a solution but this has really gotten the best of me. Here's what I find so baffling, and how I ended up with the god-awful login login screen color (burnt gold).

I have 2 machines I am running Win10 on and one machine I run Win8.1 on. On each of the preview builds I chose to do a fresh install. On one build, I can't say for sure which one, I installed it and when I went to change my background and start menu colors I chose this gold color not realizing it was going to be so bad. Seeing how ugly it was I immediately changed the start screen color to something else which changed the start screen and task bar but the login color did not change. When I fired up the second machine sure enough the color changed on it as well but did not change on my 8.1 machine. Knowing this had something to do with the sync feature I turned off all sync on all machines and removed each of the machine from the list of PCs in Onedrive. I then turned sync back on on the 8.1 system thinking that any future install would pick up those settings. Last night I went so far as to uninstall Win10 on both machines and fresh install the latest build on only one thinking I could start over and get the color I wanted on the login screen. WRONG!!
As soon as the new install fired up (before any personalization change) up pops another ugly color-a washed out blue which I have never used anywhere. For the life of me I can't figure out where it came from. On first boot, the new install came up with sync turned on automatically so I was right back where I started, save the ugly gold changed to ugly blue.
I tried your suggestion and copied one of my unused Win8.1 themes over to the one Win 10 machine. When I chose it, nothing changed on the Win10 machine but it did on the 8.1 machine. What's up with that? I'm going in circles here. I give up.

I've figured out one thing for sure-the syncing of Win10 and Win8.1 does not work correctly.

The color of the login screen is a minor thing, I know, but I'm just one who wants to understand how all this ties together.
Thanks to all of your suggestions and time spent in posting. We can only hope the final release will give us more control but I'm not going to hold my breath.

    @ lgentry :
Just out of curiosity, if you navigate to the following reg key, what is the value for your SpecialColor entry?
