Strange - Windows Surface Pro 3 screen appearing on my Desktop

    Hi,

I have Win 10 on my Desktop and sing in with the same pwd as I did with 7.. Not through Windows account.

Have a Surface Pro 3 with 10 and I do sign in with Windows account and dif password.

I was trying to get the photos off my Galaxy Note5 to the Desktop and had to sign in to Windows account.. (Still no luck with photos import though).

I just tried to sign in to my Desktop and it asked for the Windows Account pwd which it has never before. When I did it, I saw the screen background of my Surface which is on, but in another part of the building.

How on earth is that happening and why?

I then logged into the Desktop where it said Admin Manager and got a screen with my icons but all on one side of the screen and when I asked for my email program, it asked me to set it up.

How can I get this back to my usual sign in with a non Windows account?

    Please...

    Thanks

    Hello oz,

Since both PCs are using the same Microsoft account, this will be from your "Theme" settings being synced between them. You can turn this off on one or both PCs to stop this. :)

Many thanks for the early reply.

I don't know how they were both turned on but I turned the sync off on both and rebooted them twice each.

Unfortunately I still get the Surface Screen on the Desk even though I turned the Surface off...
The Desktop icons are there, but the Surface background.

    Thanks,

My guess is your background is set from when it was synched , you should be able to just reset it on desktop settings back to how you want.

Thanks so much. Yes just changed back to the dark blue again.

BTW. Say I have Thunderbird on both boxes, Firefox etc and they are different.. histories, bookmarks etc.,

What happens if they are synced?

    Appreciate the help.

I assume this is what has happened:

You tried to import your photos from your phone using the Windows Phone Companion App, which asked you to sign in to a Microsoft account first, and you were shown this dialog:

You entered your Microsoft account credentials and clicked Sign in.

The dialog shown next is very important when a local account user wants to sign in to a Windows Store or a Windows app without switching the whole Windows user account to a Microsoft account:

If you enter your password and click / tap Next in above dialog, your Windows user account will be switched to a Microsoft account. This is what happened to you, I am quite sure of it. To continue using your original local account should have selected Sign in to just this app instead! Doing this your Windows user account will not be converted to a Microsoft account, it will only be used to sign in to this app.

If you want to continue using a local account now you need to switch back to it. This tutorial shows you how: Local Account - Switch to in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

When you do it your Surface device and desktop PC will no longer be synced and you can restore your PC settings as you had them earlier (wallpaper, theme, icon placing and so on). Remember: In the future when you want to use Windows Store or an app which requires a Microsoft account, you need to select Sign in to just this app instead.

Thanks so much. Yes this is exactly what happened.

Okay I will try and undo as you show above.

    Many thanks to you all.
