@Bastet just curious here. I believe i've tried this fix but it hasn't helped me.

    1. In Personalization->Lock Screen settings change Background to Picture.
    2. Delete everything from folder
      C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_<somecharacters> \Settings
    3. In Personalization->Lock Screen settings change Background back to Windows Spotlight
Yeah I tried that ages ago when Spotlight didn't work at all (I just had the red plane wing background all the time) all it did was to make matters worse - I lost spotlight entirely.

I have always had a mixed bag of results when using Spotlight on the lock screen. Sometimes it works as I expected. Often times it does not. Here is what I have learned over the past two years while using Spotlight on Windows 10.
There are two different lock screens. There is a Default lock screen and there is a User lock screen. The Default lock screen appears when you startup Windows 10 or when you sign out/ sign in and currently it should be the Sea Cave image, but this has not always been my experience. The User lock screen is the one the user chooses in Settings. It can set to Spotlight, Picture or Slideshow. The User lock screen is shown when the system returns from Sleep or when you press the Windows key + L.
There are other factors that effect which lock screen image is ultimately shown such as how many users there are on the system and how one chooses to sign into Windows 10.
There is also a Spotlight cache algorithm which also plays a part in determining which lock screen image is shown if Spotlight is selected.
So knowing which lock screen image to expect can be difficult to know. That becomes even more difficult to know when Spotlight is malfunctioning. I have seen the current Spotlight image shown at Windows 10 startup when I was expecting the Sea Cave image.
Since the end of May 2017 Microsoft has been tweaking the Spotlight cache algorithm and the results have been shall I say inconsistent. In the end we just have to wait and see if Microsoft finally gets this right.

Ah ok. Just a thought. My Dad's AIO Acer PC had a similar issue regarding Spotlight and I have just reset the settings and deleted the contents of the Assets folder and it worked first time. I have just done it and still no luck.

He is on same version as me too 1703 build latest version. It's proper bugging me!

Another update. It worked again this morning but is not working again now. Very strange

Wondering now if it's something to do with paper options or something stupid like that. Or maybe my location for Bing if Spotlight gets the images from there
