Click on the blue link and a zip file can be either saved or opened from the popup menu. This is very easy to do. No rocket science needed to accomplish this task!
Hi, I can draw a bit. In the first post, the customize.org link is not working. Is there any reliable source using which I can set the size, layers and spacing in .cur and .ani files?
In one post, it says, 32 -128 as 5 layers in a .cur files. But how much should be the size of the canvas? How much blank space around the pointer and other cursors so that the cursor is neither too big nor too small. Thanks.
Hi. I am glad that you can draw. I am not very good at drawing but I can draw cursors. The best size to use for cursors is 64x64 pixels. This is a middle ground size which is a good size for cursors, but you can use any size you want when creating your own cursors.
Please note that in the near future RealWorld Cursor Editor is expected to be updated with new cursor wizards. I have requested this quite a few times, so please watch for a new version of RealWorld Cursor Editor. The current latest version of RealWorld Cursor Editor is from 2013, so this version is now years out of date. I cannot guarantee a definite decision to when the new version of RealWorld Cursor Editor is going to be, but for sure I am aware that a new version of this software is just around the corner.
Thanks. Need to find myself a template or reference. Because the last one I tried, the resultant cursor was too small.
Thanks for reporting it.
I've replaced that with a back-in-time link to the same site using Internet Archive.
That page just contains basic cursor information to get started and it's for the XP - Vista era.
See post 4 for the specifications. These were noticed by examining the official Windows cursor files. In one post, it says, 32 -128 as 5 layers in a .cur files. But how much should be the size of the canvas? How much blank space around the pointer and other cursors so that the cursor is neither too big nor too small. Thanks.
Nowadays a cursor has to be multi-layered to cover multiple DPI screens but a basic 32x32px will work. Windows 10 uses layers up to 128x128px for static cursors.
A cursor is always square in dimensions, filled with transparency for the invisible areas.
There are different ways you can get started:
1. Either you make one big canvas and resize automatically during export for all layers / sizes.
2. Or you draw layer by layer, frame by frame, which of course is more time consuming but allows the highest customization.
If you draw, for instance for method 1, consider making the canvas large enough to cover multiple layers. For instance 1000x1000px or bigger. This is your template, you can export in any size. For bitmap (png) you will of course be limited to the size of your canvas, but for vector (svg) you can export in any size.
Note:
32x32px is required, up to 64x64px to be safe for Windows 8.1 - 11. (Windows 7 accepts this as well)
But keep in mind that with each layer increase, the file size also increases dramatically. So 128x128px is currently the edge, is optional for static cursors and not recommended for animated cursors.
It feels so good to see you here again Hopachi. Have you made any new cursors for Windows 11 yet?
Here is the thread that I wrote on the ElevenForum.com website:

I am not asking you for creating any cursor sets, but I simply want to know what you are up to now, after all this time not hearing or seeing you commenting on this forum.
