Win 7 theme for Win 10 - looks rather convincing

Aero 7 Themes for Windows 10 by sagorpirbd on DeviantArt

Choice of rounded or square corners.

    Needs
UltraXThemePatcher (freeware) and Aeroglass (not freeware- cost < e5)

The author says it also needs OldNewExplorer (freeware).

Note it does NOT include Win 7 icons... that can be rather well achieved using Icon Changer (freeware) if you manually copy the changed imageres.dll from Icon Changer's folder into windows (as I found I had to do).

    It's up to date.

UltraXThemePatcher -> doesn't work in Win10 any more...
OldNewExplorer -> causes too much OS instability in 10

Before anyone say's anything, I have been testing these and other patchers and customizing software since Decenber last year in every build, and they stopped working at about 10074-10079 or so.

    Hi all

Running windows 10 build 10586 ( version 1511 ) there is a workaround to make some compatible themes work :

Credits to Cu88 at deviantart : Install UXThemePatcher Windows10 (10586.11) by cu88 on DeviantArt

Some warn against going to cleodesktop site so use it at your own risk

I tested it for my youtube channel and had no pb with this screen : (" ubuntu dark theme" tested )

the patching procedure is weird as you have to use both UxStyle_0242_x86_x64_preview then ultraUXthemepatcher 3.0.4 and replace manually some dll files .

As a themer myself I can second what Cliff saying and you shoudn't mix 10240 themes or 10586 ones according to your OS build .

I think the main pb to use theme now under win 10 is that OS upgrade and make former theme obsolete so keep it in mind .. and next major release "redstone" should keep you again to use older themes too.

    and so on ... sadly.

Mm, thanks. Confirmed what I suspected.. MS is deliberately removing this freedom and increasingly constraining people to take its offering as is in a bid to achieve uniformity across devices.

I'll stay with what I have - coloured backgrounds in most traditional windows (easier on the eye) (Qttabbar + minor reg hack + reassert theme on resuming), transparency (Aeroglass), a lot of Win 7 icons (Icon changer), drop shadows (Y'z shadow).

This seems the most feasible & sustainable for now- apart from the icons (quite easily redone), it survived the November upgrade.

    Tempting...
but nah, I'm gonna pass on this one.
Just tidying up my fifth or sixth clean install in as many days so, I'm a little tired of it!
