why do people bother upgrading OS's to then change the look and feel of it back to a predecessor.

Yes - the answer is to downgrade back to Windows 7 or XP

I don't need to downgrade because i'm using W7 in the main computers.

I only use the W10 for testing pruposes.

And yes, i will stay in W7 if there are not solution for that.

Unfortunately, W7 has a limited support time and W10 is not free for ever...

The whole purpose of this forum is to help people do what they want (if it can be done), not give useless advices such as install Windows XP!

All you need is Classic Shell. Apply the classic start menu, to look like Windows 98, then change the skin to classic. Change the taskbar color to gray. You can even change the start button to look like that of Windows 98, using a custom picture. To make minimized windows look more like Windows 98, right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. In taskbar buttons select Never combine.

It is possible in some beta builds of Win10, particularly, 10.0.9888. If that shell still works under newer builds, it can be done.

See here: 10.0.9888's shell seems promising | WinClassic

I prefer the Classic Shell from www.classicshell.net to get the whole package (classic start menu and taskbar, cut-copy-paste etc buttons on most explorer windows and some other details in IE). I am using the latest Windows 10 Pro v1607 (July 2016) installation (see my specs) and I have the latest Classic Shell (4.3.0) installed. Yes, the "classic" skin is still here. Right-click on the start button and select Settings to open the Classic Start Settings. Now check the box to show all settings and go to the Skin tab. Select the classic skin to look like Windows 98. Then you could set the color of the taskbar to medium gray to make it more like Windows 98. Go to the traditional Control Panel, change view from Category to Large Icons to see all controls. Open the Taskbar and Navigation. Scroll down to Combine task buttons and change from "Always, hide labels" to "Never", so the open windows and applications are never combined, they all appear in the taskbar, just like in Windows 98.

These guys who on every question, even unrelated answer "Classic Shell" sometimes become very annoying. Yes, Classic shell is a good program.

Classic Shell is made of the same team as Classic Start except it that Classic Start is part of Classic Shell (contains only the start menu) while the Classic Shell is the full package. Download it, install it and you'll see the difference. And I never forced anyone to install it, if you only want Classic Start, that's fine. It works exactly the same, so you can follow my instructions at my previous post as well.

Anyone mentioned "Classic Start" in this thread? Are you trolling?
