What is the location of the icons located in the start menu?

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to find the location of the icons located on the start menu (as seen in the image I uploaded).
I am specifically looking for the folder explorer one as I am trying to set the taskbar explorer to that icon.
I am using the program IconsExtract to scan my computer for icons but to no avail.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

I figure since I'm not finding it as an icon, they must not technically be icons. As we are able to change their color via our color settings, they must be some sort of svg or something of the sort.

    Resolved!
They are located in the Segoe MDL2 Assets Font.
I was looking at this site and then realized that front-end uses fonts for icons as well. Then boom. win.

Now to figure out how to use it in xaml files and where the start menu is calling it.

More information on Symbol enumeration here and here

Unicode for the start menu icons
    Documents: E160, E7C3
    Download: E118
    Music: EC4F
    Pictures: EB9F
    Video: E116
    Homegroup: EC26
    Network: EC27
    Personal Folder: EC25
    Folder Explorer: EC50
    Settings: E115, E713
    Power: E7E8
    All Apps: E179

    2nd Edit:
Although I ended up finding the icons, I'll leave these up here for reference sake.

    Edit:
I'm starting an alphabetic list of files w/ icons here. For both reference sake and to not repeat searches.
If you've looked at another file that isn't on here, let me know so I can add it in.
Also located here. Currently, none contain the icons shown on the start menu.

Maybe you have to enable color on start, taskbar and action center (see picture below). Right-click on the desktop and select Personalization. Then click on Color at the left. Scroll down and enable the Show color on start, taskbar and action center. The chosen color will show on the start menu as well.

PS: You cannot set a custom color from this control. To open the advanced color menu where you can set a custom color, like in Windows 8.1, create a new shortcut and copy-paste this code at the path:

    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced

Save the shortcut and double-click to open the advanced color control.

EDIT: On reading your post again, I realized you want to change the explorer icon at the taskbar. Unfortunately this cannot be done since it involves changing the icons embedded in EXPLORER.EXE but doing so will affect digital signature and Windows won't be able to load Windows Explorer (practically the desktop) again! So unless you find a way to sign the file again, don't touch it!

I misspoke on that - realized it when I awoke this morning, heh.
But changing the color on that is not what I am after, I mentioned it because i had erroneously thought they did and then it lead me to think of it possibly not being stored as an icon. I am after finding where the location of those icons are. I.E, some sort of dll file.

The explorer.exe contains the colorized version of the folder explorer icon - Icon Group ->1033
I'm trying to find the location of outlined folder explorer that appears in the start menu

Yes, it is probably some DLL file. Once found you can replace its icons with Customizer God. But be careful, some files (such as Explorer.exe) have a digital signature and this is no longer valid if you replace the icons. In this case the affected DLL won't work and you may have issues. Create a restore point before trying anything. Sorry, I don't know which file is this. Anyone else?

Yea, once a W10 compatible version is released. I'm using RH as of now since the updated version is essentially Restorator 07' but free and standalone.

I went over all the icons on my computer and still no luck. I thought perhaps I just skipped it by going too quickly.

Despite stating that it is not compatible with Windows 10, Customizer God can be used. It just cannot open the relevant DLL files automatically. You must press CTRL+O and browse to the DLL you want to change. In fact I used Customizer God in many Windows 10 computers in order to replace the original flat Windows 10 icons with their Windows 8.1 counterparts. Now my desktop is more 3D and nicer. When you go to download it your antivirus might alert you it contains a Trojan and delete it. To avoid that disable your antivirus, download it and run it to extract the files in a folder. Then you can enable your antivirus again. Avoid other included executables, run only Customizer God and you shouldn't have a problem.

Oh nice. I didn't know any of the hotkeys so I didn't think to try them for functionality. Thanks for the tip!
