Is there WinCustomize for Windows 10?

Hi, I come from Windows Vista and have just got my new Lenovo laptop with pre-installed Win10. I used to use WindowBlinds and what not on my old Vista. Is there WinCustomize for Windows 10?

Window transparency.

To change transparency and make buttons 3D like in Windows 7, use Aero Glass. I report it works fine in both Windows 10 32-bit and 64-bit. To remove the watermark at bottom right you must donate, but I don't mind it as I hide it behind a gadget. Yes, it is possible to get desktop gadgets back in both Windows 8 and 10 using 8gadgetpack. Last version supports Windows 10 as well. To make the chosen color fill all the menu area rather than a thin outline, download and install the aerolite theme. Changing the color in the usual way gives you only a fixed color palette to choose from. To choose a custom color like in Vista and 7, create a new shortcut and paste this code in the path:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced

Then save it as Advanced color setup or anything you want. Double-click to open the good old color control where you can choose a custom color.

To change the start button and start menu to make it like in Vista or 7, use Classic Shell. You can even install a skin to make the start button identical to Vista and 7. This also adds buttons like cut, copy, paste etc in Windows Explorer. Very useful.

To tweak the size of buttons, the font of menus, messages etc, use Winaero Tweaker from here. The same guy has also many interesting utilities, such as enabling the old calculator rather than the ugly modern app etc. Have a look and be amazed!

To change the picture of the login screen use Windows 10 Login image changer.

To change the too-simple-too-boring network, volume, battery icons use Customizer God. Make sure to temporarily disable your antivirus while downloading or a false-Trojan alert will cause Windows Defender (or your antivirus) to delete it. The process is rather tedious as it involves getting the relevant system files from Windows 8.1 or 7 (depending on the look you want), load them in Customizer God, extract the icons you want (hint: select the first, hold SHIFT and click on the last to select all). Then close the utility, just in case. Load it again, open the respective Windows 10 system file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and change the icons you want. There is a batch option but I wouldn't dare trying it. I changed the icons one-by-one to make sure I don't mix them up. Now I have the old good-looking icons of Windows 8.1 for network, volume, folder etc. It was worth the trouble!

You can also restore the old desktop versions of Microsoft Solitaire, Minesweeper etc. You copy the Microsoft Games folder from Windows 7 to C:\Program Files. Then you copy some specific DLL files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and finally you run the patch to make them work in Windows 8 and 10. Sorry, no link for that, but you can Google it.

I'll download these as well, so I don't need to patch every time I install them for a friend.Now that I finally managed to make Windows 10 look as close as possible to Windows 7, I see no reason to postpone the upgrade. I recommend it to all. I was hesitating at first as I didn't like the new flat interface, but now this is solved.

What does Aeroglass does? How to use it?

You should have noticed that Windows 8 and 10 have a rather flat interface (no depth in buttons etc). Using Aero Glass you can make it 3D like in Windows 7 which is much nicer. It also adds transparency to the borders of the window, including the menu bar on the top, for a very nice effect. These features were default in Vista and 7 but Microsoft decided they are too complicated and resource consuming. In order to be able to run Windows 8 in more devices, including Windows RT (ARM processor version) for tablets, they should minimalize the interface. Windows 10 minimalized even more by simplifying the icons. That's why I used Customizer God to replace the new simply-ugly icons of Windows 10 with the 3D-nicer icons of Windows 8.1

So Aero Glass gives back the transparency and 3D look of the interface. Nice tool! To use it you simply install it and run once.
