One of the most ridiculous complaints I have read! First (the red font in the above quote), you are complaining about some missing eye candy. Then, the next sentence (in green font), you state that it should be about productivity. For your information, nice visual 3D effects making the desktop blink and glitter is not productive. The more productivity you want to emphasize, the simpler desktop you have.
Please decide: Eye candy or productivity?
Wrong! 3D border is not "eye candy" (especialy when you set them gray). 3D borders helps ditinguish one window from another, and message boxes from main windows.
This is essential for productivity. Just like font color better be in contrast from the backround.
Total absence of border is a monstruousity.
It's very difficult to work without them. But they did this because, simply, smartphone displays are too small to countour windows with borders, let alone the luxury for 3D. But as soon as you have 480/640 pixels, of course that you need borders!
It was the first thing I needed to fix on W10 and it took a hack to do it. No way to do it through the customization interface. And I still don't have 3D borders, just flat borders which are less efficient.
Our eyes are naturaly used to recognize spatial volumes. 3D gives a more natural visual environement, hence a more productive one.
3D borders existed since W95. Now with W10 themes, we are back to Windows 3.1 and the Modern Start is like an Atari console of the 80's!

Huh?? Well.. I for one don't need 3d borders to be productive with any OS. Oh and clam down.. no need to insult another member here. Check out the rules..

Well, this is a Win10 forum so I would think that the majority of users/members would think it's a good OS.

Fun fact. The "smart phone" you're talking about is the Windows Phone, which has its own version of Windows 10 on it. So, saying MS is using borderless Windows because the Windows Phone can't take it makes no sense at all. Why does MS need to alter a PC OS for a phone if the phone will never use it? Hmm?

Maybe MS did it because they thought people would like it, and it also helps the OS to operate faster without having to generate 3D borders. Personally, I have to admit that Windows 10 is a very fast operating system and I'm sure not having Windows 7 in it is partially responsible for that.

Obviosly MS can't please everyone, but I believe Classic Shell can restore the 3D borders.

MS thought that poeple will like every OSes to look the same from cellphones to double-screen desktops.
They started this Metro, this Modern stuff with the idea of using the same apps and the same look and feel on every devices.
There is also a conspiracy to make the RT system universal.
These simple 3D effects were never a drag on resources. 200 Mhz processors would handle it as fast as the flat, contrasted themes. Nobody could observe a difference back then.
The only drag on resources observed was transparency. That was because transparency is a much more complex than faking shadow with two lines of grey pixels (the 3D border effect is in fact very simple graphicaly) and also because of very poor coding. Vista added 10 Gb of bloatware to the OS.
Other 3d party software to add decorations to windows and create new styles, were also slowing down the system sometimes because they used too complex effects amd methods.
That's not what we are asking.

I do think it's a good OS. Much better than W8.
Mainly because of mundane things like the Start Screen not filling the display area completely, less pressure to use apps, better window resizing of these apps, gives back the Start Menu, disable charm bar by default on desktop pc (I think , not sure, please someone confirm), return to the computer power logic, slightly albeit almost unoticeable better efficiency...
