    Thin blue square on icons

I removed the arrow from my desktop icons, but i see there is now a thin blue square around most icons. The blue line seems useless and clutters the icon. Does anyone know how to get rid of those blue lines? And why do they appear on some icons and not on others?

Replace the shortcut arrow using the same method that you used to remove them and then use Winaero Tweaker to remove them. I had the same thing happen to me when I used "Shortcut Remover" program to remove them. After much frustration, I came across that same setting in the Winaero Tweaker program and it worked without the little boxes.

I didn't use a shortcut remover program. I used this: Shortcut Arrow Icon - Change, Remove, or Restore in Windows 10. Is there a way to remove the squares without using Winaero Tweaker?

Unfortunately, the method posted on that link will only get rid of the actual arrow but won't remove the overlay outline. Winaero Tweaker or this method are the only ones I know of that completely remove the arrow (plus overlay outline). I just happen to use tweaker already for 2 other items along with the shortcut remover selection.

Thanks, dnasystems, for the suggestion. This (http://www.windowscentral.com/how-ge...ows-windows-10) worked perfectly. However, I first restored the default shortcut arrows and then I applied the registry tweak. I'm not sure if that was necessary, but I it just to be safe.

I should mention, though, that the registry already had the key "Shell Icons," presumably from my having removed and then restored the shortcut arrows.

Question: In your post, how did you link "this method" to the windowscentral url?

    Thanks again.

Just type the name "this method", or what ever you would like to call the hyperlink...then highlight the name you just typed...while highlighted, click the "insert hyperlink" above and enter the url. When done, it will link the url to what ever you had highlighted, giving it the new name for the post.

I hope that was clear enough...It seemed like it made sense in my head. I just woke up...LOL
