Is there any possible way to have a 3d taskbar and window borders like earlier versions of Windows?
Really not liking the 'flat everything' and limited customisation.
Edit: By 3D I mean gradient edges that give a solid effect.
Me too, I realy need solid, 3D borders around windows. The flat theme is horrible.Impossible to distinguish a message box from the content of a window. This is a major regression from earlier versions.The only alternative color and border settings available are Windows 3.1 ones. 22 years old stuffs. Hey, we are in 2015...

Hi, not a direct answer, exactly, but if you like drop shadows, try Y'z shadow, but set an exception for 'ApplicationFrameWindow' (rt click the tray icon, Settings, Exclude and Include, open e.g. Settings and drag the magnifying glass onto it.
Thus 'Modern' dialogues don't get shadows (if they do, you get left-over empty frames on your desktop!), but the rest do.
Gives some degree of differentiation & 3D.
(Apparently a recent update from MS added borders to Modern and desktop apps, so I've removed the Aerolite theme now).
Note the settings dialogue for Y'z shadow is partly cut off (it's very old).
I've tried Stardock's ShadowFX but it does nothing on my PC.
(The pale yellow background is a registry hack- I hate the glaring near white. It doesn't work in explorer, of course, so I use a dual pane tabbed file manager as default).

Hi Fredledingue, A well publicised one. Obviously you can choose your own colour.
Now, the trick is to keep it. It's lost on resume from sleep or hibernation, so I had to write a small script to reappply the same theme on resume. That required some research- how to trigger sthg on resume (scheduled task) and how to reapply the theme.
So, once you have merged the reg entries, logged off, on to apply, are happy with your theme, save the theme, then you need the above. Hmm, wasn't it just so much easier with Win 7 before MS removed the relevant dialogues?
The whitetext in the title bar is achieved by using a tweak tool from AeroGlass's site, and I use Aeroglass (set a bit too opaque to be clear in that).
