How to Remove the "System" badge/label from underneath Start Menu Apps

    Build 19045.3636

After a recent update, there is now a 'system' label under the icons in my start menu.

Best method to remove via a reg edit or the like?

Hi, from the heading, I thought you would be providing the instructions!

"After installing KB5031445, an optional non-security update for Windows 10 version 22H2 (build number 19045.36.36), you will notice that some apps in the Start menu have an extra "System" badge. Microsoft officially unveiled this in release notes for Windows 11 build 23511, and the badge has yet to make it to the Stable Channel. "

    1. Forgive the obvious suggestion- uninstall the update, and then choose not to receive more...

    or

    2. Use a different start menu. Try Open Shell (free) and fully functional with a built in search box. Far more flexible, full drag 'n drop support and you can organise things in folders and add folders as you wish. The appearance is customisable too.

Sorry, can't answer your question directly.

This makes me "nuts" too but it appears only a few of us care about it. I've found no solution and very little mention of it at all. It really "litters" up the damned start menu. Why on Earf? Some guy at M$ headquarters sitting around, "I MUST justify my position!!1"

That was a preview update: the latest CU KB5032189 is said to incorporate it:
This security update includes quality improvements that were a part of update KB5031445 (released October 24, 2023). :
    KB5032189 Windows 10 Cumulative Update Build 19045.3693 (22H2)

Not seen reports about the system badges yet...

The recently added 'System' labels are probably caused by this:
Previewing Changes in Windows to comply with Digital Markets Act in the European Economic Area

a short excerpt of the article
    Windows operating system and apps

Customers using Windows have always used a combination of operating system functionality as well as apps, but now Windows will clearly identify operating system functionality in places like Settings, Start, and Search:
    • Settings > System > System Components will show notable operating system components.
    • Start menu’s All Apps list has been renamed to All and operating system components are labeled with “system”.
    • Under Search, search results will show operating system components labeled with “system”.

Ghot advised a method to remove the badges for Win 11.. feel free to try it in Win 10:

    KB5032190 Windows 11 Cumulative Update Build 22621.2715 (22H2) and 22631.2715 (23H2) | Page 3 | Windows 11 Forum

I suppose I should take exception to them appearing in the UK.. we're not in the EEA!

I can also confirm that although they are apparent in Win 10's start menu, they do not appear when using Open Shell (start menu).
Nor do I see them in taskbar search results.

Nope, Australia not in the EEC and we've been infected by this (another!!) Microsoft annoyance. They must have a whole department continually thinking up new ways to p1ss users off.

I can also confirm that the VIVE tool removes the System Apps labels in the start menu.

Any chance the VIVE tool can remove that worthless Windows Backup app?

The only way I know to do that is remove the whole Feature Experience Package thingy. Be aware, it removes everything that comes with that, the only thing I know of was something about emojis that I never even saw, use, or knew existed anyway, but your mileage may vary? Careful with this one!

How to do it post #39 in this thread, in Backup and Restore forum section.
