I can't find the file location (or source) of a background image.

    Hello again.

On my new laptop, a background picture that I sometimes use on my other laptop just appeared on the desktop. I assume it has something to do with OneDrive.

What I want to know is if the image is being stored locally (on my new laptop) or is it in the "cloud".

I thought it might be in the "web" folder with the other background pictures, but it's not.

Is there any way to trace the file path?

Right click on your Desktop -> Personalize

    See what that screen shows.

Thanks pepanee. Your original post seems to be what I was looking for.

I just want to know where the wallpaper on my desktop is located through file explorer.

The first link you posted appears to be helpful. I'll get back to you.

Yes, I had second thoughts about keeping that link here though. It's a little advanced!!
If you want, I can help you set it up much easier.

I don't want you to accidentally install the Windows 7 version, because you'll have that thing in the right click entry, and it won't work, and takes a little work to remove that.

Do you want something to look just like this?

It just takes me to the Background settings page.

    That would be great.

There is a method posted there that uses a PowerShell script. That doesn't seem so complicated.

Edit: If you want it to look exactly like mine, You'd probably need to set up the VBS version.

So! If you want that look like in my right click menu, you need to create a dedicated folder that you won't move, rename, or anything. It'll stay exactly the way it should be, forever.

    Example:

We open File Explorer to go to the C:\ drive, and make a new folder named, for example:
    Wallpaper Administrative Files

or any other folder name. You pick.

(I can help edit the files to work all the way they should after you make a specific folder that you won't move/delete/rename/etc). Assuming that you move/rename/etc the folder, your computer will be completely fine. The only thing is that when you right click and press the Locate thing, nothing would happen.

So respond back here if you want me to help you out with this thing. I can also upload you a bunch of my handpicked wallpaper images I have for you to use as a slideshow for your Desktop. I have over 28 thousand hand selected photos, which are appropriate / non-violent / pleasant for the eye to see, kind of photos.

Thanks for your interest and help.

The PowerShell script method worked for me, so I don't think I'll be needing to go through all that other stuff right now.

Perhaps sometime in the future you can help me set it up.

    Thanks again. Take care.

No worries! I am more than happy to help you set up whichever method you like best.
Since you're using the PowerShell version, and it seems satisfactory for you, then that is really great! I am happy you added this little helpful thingy to identify what image is displayed. And like I said earlier, I have a hobby of handpicking creative and artistic images to add to the slideshow of wallpaper that my Desktop plays. (I also have an electronic picture frame device that plays those images in a random order as well.) I love art which is actually good to look at. =)
    The images
    > are all age appropriate
    > have no violence,
    > don't show any weapon
    > ...and a few more other rules

    • My computer chooses a random image to display on the Desktop from a folder with more than 28 thousand (28,000) images, every 20 seconds.

Here's a small sample of the images that I have in that folder:
(Tell me if you want a small compilation I can put together for you to set up a slideshow on your desktop with really cool pictures that you can enjoy seeing =)
