Any way to stop iCloud Photos from adding itself to Search Index?

Every time I remove iCloud Photos from the Windows Search Index, it re-adds itself on the next restart. Short of uninstalling iCloud completely, is there any way to prevent this?

There are also csc://{guid} and mapi16://{guid} items that auto-add themselves to indexing after they are removed. I'm not sure these paths are doing anything, but is there any way make those removal stick as well?

    On Windows 10 22H2.

Hi, I know nothing about icloud Photos and in particular nothing about where it store any image files.

It might help if you can post an appropriate screenshot similar to this:

    showing the location.

Assuming they are in a folder on your PC, you can deselect that folder in Indexing Options as above - I presume that's what you've been doing.

    * Did you click 'Ok' at the bottom of the dialogue box after deselecting the folder?
If that takes effect, and some files have been indexed then you would see the number of items indexed reduce.

    Have you observed that?

If the files have a unique file type, you can deselect that of course.

Yes, I de-select the folder, the number of indexed items dropped, and the list of indexed locations stays the same. It's only when I reboot that these other folders add themselves back in.

    Before removal:

    After removal:

On reboot, it goes back to the first setting.

Once removed they should not get added back to indexing. https://m.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_delete_and_rebuild_the_windows_10_search_index.html#:~:text=1%3A%20Delete%20and%20Rebuild%20f rom,a%20long%20time%20to%20complete.

    Thank you for your reply

I can only suggest that the program itself does that.
Does it offer a relevant option

No, nothing relevant appears in iCloud settings.

If you deselect any other folder, does the same thing happen?

And how was this folder enabled for indexing initially?

De-selecting other folders works, with the exception of folders beginning with csc:// mapi16:// and oneindex16:// which always re-add themselves upon reboot.

I never added the iCloud Photos folder to the index. It must have been added automatically when I installed iCloud.

Thanks- it's an issue with that program then.

    Try

    Otherwise

    Options (vague concept only):
    a. block that program from writing to the relevant location
    b. run a script to uncheck that folder from the index on each startup
    c. identify which part of that program is selecting that folder to be indexed and hack it.

Or you can just live with it...

Has anyone done any scripting search index configuration? I don't see any low hanging fruit out there in terms of examples.
