    Colors in Personalization are Corrupt?

I changed the background color in Settings->background. Yay.

Then I tried setting the accent color, but it is locked to color I cannot change. I also cannot change the background color.

Mr. Google informs me the fix to this problem is to enter certain commands in powershell while logged in as an administrator, in order to deal with corrupt data.

Corrupt data? How did that happen?

I do not have administrative rights to this remote windows system, because a lot of other people use it. I guess we all have user accounts.

So unless I can get IT to fix this, I am stuck with unalterable colors? Really?

I'm confused... did you or did you not, change the background color?

I changed the background color. Then after discovering I could not change the accent color, I tried changing the background color again, to see what was going on. that is when I discovered it would not change again. So I got to set it once, and now it is stuck. When selecting the more option, where rgb values can be entered for the color, the values for rg and b do not respond to the keyboard. I thought my keyboard might be broken, but no, just cannot do anything in to the colors though the rgb setting. Maybe, I can click a color.

.... testing color selection via click a color ...

    nope. Stuck there too.

I don't know how they have this "remote windows system" set up.
You may in fact, be blocked from changing those colors.

    Some IT depts. are vicious.

That would seem to be ruled out by the first change that worked.

You might still be right, in spite of the one color change that worked. I will check with the Help Desk.

Again, I can't be sure from this end. What you say makes sense, but without knowing what they have set up...

I'd say your best bet is to just ask your IT folks.

This would be my answer for ANY system that is being controlled from elsewhere.
Standard Windows solutions won't work in a situation like this.

Like the thing with the background color.
That may have been overlooked at first by your IT folks, and then they caught it.

Or if this is an across town remote system, rather than an in house remote system... the internet may have briefly... bogged down. And "that" allowed you to change the background color.

Many IT depts. like everything to be the "same". This makes troubleshooting easier for them.
Some are more generous with what they allow you to alter.

If it was up to me, for you....

But there really just isn't anything that can be done, when someone else has control of the system.

If there was a gun to my head and my life depended on answering my question correctly, I would say, "What GHOT said!"

Those are words that should be stated about a billion times more often in forums. I am more sensitive than average, but on almost every post I have ever done, one of the main things I am looking for is a sanity check.

Come to think of it, it would not be the worst idea ever conceived to have a 2nd kind of karma you can hit on any post that privately lets the author know what they wrote is understandable, makes sense is, not 100% stupid, even if in error.

Ever ask an honest question on Quora?

Sooooooooooooooo... I would say my question has been answered already by ghot, thanks to his general explanation of the masks behind which IT Headquarters can control things without informing the user of their presence and effects.

Still, for what it is worth, in the case of my limited color control. I found I can change one color per system boot.
