    Like this...

Change Size of Caption Buttons in Windows 10

Only do the CaptionHeight setting in the registry.
It seems to be backwards. The CaptionHeight setting moves them closer together.
Be advised it will change the taskbar icons as well.

    Default for CaptionHeight is -330
Try -165 first. Reboot to apply, and see how you like it.

what about the spacing (distance between icons)? can those be shrinked. also by adjusting this, would title bar be thinner? more vertical space is always welcome.

Yes the title bar will be thinner. However it's the best that can be done.
Unfortunately, any changes to those icons, change ALL icons.

Ofc, you can play around with other settings in the WindowsMetrics key.
Just remember that you have to reboot to apply the changes.

just revisiting this, this seems to change explorer's icon size/menu bar thickness but it doesnt seem to affect any other application. ie chrome, firefox browser etc

That's because not all 3rd party programs use the standard Windows window frame and consequently don't follow the metrics applied to those.

It's easy to use. Like any other program, you need to learn to use it.

You've not provided any screenshots so I've no idea whether you've installed it, or what you've tried.

    Here's how:

hey sorry for the late reply, I attached some screenshot below. I went through the youtube video but it doesn't go over button size and the area I am pretty sure I've found it what to edit, but it is not working (part of the screenshot).

I edit default window's theme as a duplicate (or any other pre-existing themes for that matter), then I change button size and when applied changes you can see the button suppose to be small as in the preview, but when using it has no effect whatsoever on any window, not curtain window, not explorer, nor chrome itself even though curtain say its suppose to affect both chrome and edge.
