Is there any way to restore the Windows Search background to white?

One of the Windows 10 updates (Currently on 21H1) changed the Windows search background (i.e. Start Menu - when you start typing) from white to dark.

I find it much harder to read the results because of the lower contrast, so I would prefer to go back to the white background.

However, I want to keep the overall Windows dark mode (because the light mode looks awful).

    Is this possible?

    You could try this
Make Cortana Search Box White in Windows 10

    - easy with one click using the excellent free tweaker

    - note the Cortana reference is obsolete of course.

However, these things date quickly- e.g. this tutorial only applies up to 1903:
Change Color of Search Box on Taskbar to White in Windows 10

so the change may not be possible.

(I don't use dark mode- I use an adapted light mode).

If you don't like this, try Open Shell (free) as a start menu- it has its own configurable search box.

Your suggestions seem to relate to the box on the taskbar, but that's not the issue I'm asking about.

I'm referring to the results that come up in the Start Menu.

For example, here is what it looks like now.

But here is what it used to look like - and this is what I'm trying to get back:

Than you for your reply. A picture always helps to make your question clear.

No. You can't using Windows alone. There may be some special tweak tool out there, but these quite often become ineffective a build or two on.
