desktop has icons, they're too large
are there any ways to make them small like the icons on taskbar?
or any good ideas of how to make them into only text?
or are there any icons to download that can change all the icons? or would icons downloaded only change some of the icons?

Right-click on a blank area of the desktop, hover over View & you can select Medium or Small icons.

You can also hold CTRL and scroll the mouse wheel (if you have one) to increase/ decrease icon size. Most decent image editors allow you to save files in Windows icon format (compressed/ uncompressed) so making your own desktop and app replacement icons is fairly easy, there are some good online guides for how to do it. If your image editor allows an overlay grid and a customisable rule even better.

You simply can change any icon to empty one from imageres.dll and then rename that shortcut to any text you like.
genius true genius so have to create icons that are super tiny like taskbar, i guess that'll be a project one day... guess we'll see

genius sadly longer than short text does not extend and gets cut off, guess this would be a problem forever in windows...
