    Hello Joshua,

Yes, but leave the top Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 part of the code out if you're adding it to an existing .reg file. A .reg file only needs one at the top. :)
that would be an oopsie on my end then, lol. I tested it out just after posting my question. It seems to have worked fine though, lol. I'm not sure if it created a completely new registry area or if it updated the one that was already in it, lol.

    ---EDIT---

I'm an idiot. I completely misred your statement, lol. I used notepad to create a .reg file out of the coding, so it was actually a new .reg file, lol.

As readers may be aware, the fix above does not resist Dropbox updates, which reestablish the pesky navigation pane entry.

A nuclear response was needed, but not by uninstalling. I created a Task that consists of running a batch file that implements the reg file above after logon. Dropbox itself is set by Task Manager (not autoruns) to wait for user logon and a working internet connection. This takes a moment, so the batch file is set to run 1 minute after the internet connection is established.

This, after several test reboots, works. If after an update or some slow boot the fix doesn't work, just go into Task Scheduler and run the task manually.
Can you please provide the batch file? I got the reg file to work but the dropbox icon keeps coming back whenever I log into my computer again.

I named the registry file HideDropbox.reg so change the name in this batch file to coincide with your reg file's name. Make sure you also use the proper path.
    Code:
    regedit.exe /S "C:\HideDropbox\HideDropbox.reg"
I created a task to run 30 seconds after startup, but you can alter the time to 45 seconds if you wish by exporting the task, deleting the task, editing the xml file, then reimporting the xml file to Task Scheduler.

lol, I completely forgot to let ya know I managed to get one created already, lol. Sorry for the confusion. A friend from Virtual Customs showed me how to create the batch file, lol. Thanks for the response, though. =)

Would it be possible to incorporate this fix in the tutorial? First, because this (should) work and second, because the tutorial should work but doesn't at the moment.

Another method would be to deny the user (or group or whatever, at least Dropbox) permissions to edit the corresponding registry keys. The keys would then in theory remain unaltered.

Unfortunately, the tutorial's result didn't persist!
