What is a good way to change desktop background on system startup?

    Hi!

Since wallpaper changing is a terrible borked mess, I'm thinking changing it once per system startup (including from hybernation) would be a good compromise, compared to a periodic changing of background. I like the background changing, but not unresponsiveness (global) and GUI blinking (native GUI toolkit apps) that comes with it.

My best guess would be a scheduled task that is (successfully) triggered by a system startup. Though I'd need some command to do that which I don't know, and set the slideshow interval really high. (otherwise I'd need a script to manually select a random image)

There are plenty of free background changers that can take pictures from a variety of sources, whether those be online or your own folder.

    E.g. Wally, John's Background Switcher...

For example, Wally can be set to change the background once, then quit. I.e. no overhead. Or, continually change on a schedule.

You can make multiple deskthemepacks then attach it into an batch file. That mechanism is used in my DeskThemePacks. Or, you can use @dalchina's solution.

    where's dalchina's solution?

Such progs usually also have options to stretch or crop images as appropriate.

Example: Wally - very simple to use, nothing much to think about once set.

Check the theme packs thread here and search for my themes. E.g. SevenTheme then modify the batch file.

Note: the setup.bat not the others.

    what is the deskthemepack?

normally, DeskThemePacks has wallpapers, cursors, and sound schemes in windows10.

Sorry, since he linked a user account, I didn't think he meant the previous reply.
    Thanks.

I will add an instructions how to use a batch file to change wallpaper continuesly. Or you can use the slide show option in Wallpapers in 10

So having taken a look, I'm not sure what's your suggestion about. It looks like the batch installs one theme. What do you mean by "attaching multiple", and how does it translate to changing backgrounds?

That'd be nice. Then I could figure what's this about. :)

Seeing as the bugged nature of that is the reason I'm looking for a workaround, that's not an option.

Can these bypass Windows' mechanism to change background? I have strong suspicion that the bugginess of the transition effect between backgrounds is the cause of the latency and visual artifacts that happens during a background change.

Thank you very much for your reply.

This may be helpful- very detailed- for both Home and Pro to overcome Windows reapplying its own - even if it's set to be e.g. a solid colour or picture.
