Looking for a(n) App(s) that Can Change the Icon of the same File Type

I have been trying to Windows 7-ize my Windows 10 and so far, it has been a success. One of the problems that I am experiencing however, is that all the icons (i.e folder icons) are all from Windows 10. I did do some RegEdit magic to change the icons of the folders to how they looked like in Windows 7 however it only applies to folder icons in the file explorer while everywhere else it's the same (i.e taskbar). I tried downloading the IconChanger app and while it is good for changing the look of individual folders, I don't really understand how to change the look of all icons of the same type (what I mean by that is like I wanted to make all folders that contain text files or documents within them to use the "filled" fodler ion from WIndows 7). I know I sound kind of nitpicky about it but I regret buying Windows 10 too much to stick with such small details (no offense Windows 10 fans).

Hi, I've used Icon Changer -free- by Damian666 (not readily available now) - it changes about 77 icons in imageres.dll to Win 7 style.

Here's a possible source (I've not tried it) otherwise I guess I could upload a copy.
    Icon Changer 1.6 - Download

The program creates an updated version of imageres.dll- but I found I had to copy the updated file manually in the end.

Otherwise manually using e.g. CustomiserGod (never used it).

I believe changing this reg key will affect explorer icons:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
Create new string values, 3 and 4 change Data to C:\Windows\System32"Filename.ico" for both strings. (or path to your icon)
The 3 & 4 could be for filled and empty.
This used to work but I haven't tried it since early 1909 Win.

I can't find a link to the official download. Not even pirating sites are hosting it.

Edit: Yes, I did find this website IconChanger 3.8 for Windows - Download but it only hosts the free version.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I suspect the author withdrew it some time ago as I can't find the original site.

Stardock IconPackager ... it's about 10 bucks but it's really hassle free!

Yes.. good. That's what I showed before as a screenshot.

And here's how to post screenshots most usefully:
Looking for a(n) App(s) that Can Change the Icon of the same File Type-screenshot-.png
(Tutorials available about screenshots if needed)

You will find it processes the resources, then creates an updated version of imageres.dll in its installation folder. It says it replaces it, but I found I ended up doing it manually. Try it and see.

Thank you for the tip! I tried it and I was pretty much satisfied. Of course not every single icon was patched but I am still thankful. I'm wondering if it is possible to patch other icons if I put in my own ones Dropbox - Win7 Icons - Simplify your life

The program does allow you, as I recall, to specify new icon sets or presumably to add to the existing one. Not something I've explored personally.

For odd ones you might try CustomiserGod - some have mentioned that- again, not one I've used.

What I do like about simply using that program is that it's easily repeatable with minimal effort.. necessary after upgrades or an in-place upgrade repair install or running SFC /SCANNOW, rather than hacking individual icons.
