    Hello Steven,

I suppose as a workaround, you could create a shortcut of Google Chrome, change the icon of this shortcut, and Pin to Start the shortcut. This way only the shortcut is affected.

Weird even the shortcut shows the google chrome icon when pinned to start, everywhere else it’s changed to the new icon I put, can you try?

Hmm, it does the same for me.

As a workaround, you could add the shortcut to the All Apps list in the Start menu using an option in the tutorial below. It's not the same as Pin to Start, but it's in the Start menu and uses the custom icon.

That is weird. Usually if you change the icon inside of google chromes exe it should change it every where. I never tried it on the installer exe i wonder if that would work as i only changed the exe that gets installed to run chrome.

It is weird because the icon once we change with resource hacker should be completely gone and it’s only when pinning to start menu that I see it, that’s why I asked if their was a cache for start menu, don’t know gonna play around :)

Ok i figured it out. For some odd reason when you go to replace an icon with resource hacker and right click on an icon under the folder icon and then choose replace icon. The dialog box that pops up only shows the icons under icon group that you can replace. I couldn't figure out how to replace the icons under the icon folder with resource hacker. I believe the icon you replaced was under icon group and the first one labeled IDR_MAINFRAME. Correct me if i'm wrong.
I hope my explanation makes sense.

Shown in this screenshots you have to replace these icons but resource hacker won't let you. As it only gives you the option to change the icons under icon group.

These are the icons that need replaced. 1 Through 6 are icons. 7 is a png. These are the only ones that need replaced. You can do the orange ones to but i don't see where they are used at.

But resource hacker will only allow you to replace the icon group highlighted in the picture below.
Pin to start menu icon cache-resource-hacker-2.png
Pin to start menu icon cache-icon-group-expanded.png
This shows that when you go to replace the icon under the icon folder resource hacker only gives you the options to replace the icons in the icon group.

So i had to use a paid program that i bought called restorer 2007 to replace the icons under the icon folder. After replacing them icons the one icon under the icon group folder automatically changed. And after saving it and putting it back in the google program files folder the icon on the start menu was changed.

Are you able to pin It to the start menu with the new icon because for me it shows up in the programs list and everywhere else as changed and new it’s just when pinned to start

just want to clarify. In all locations including start menu all programs and in control panel and everywhere ! Except for when you pin it to the start menu. Right clicking the shortcut and click pin to start or search and pin to start, that’s the only place I don’t see it... can you pin it to start menu where the tiles are and show me how it looks? In your screenshot I get the same result and it works it’s really when you “pin to start menu” where the tiles are.

Well changing it like i did with the exe put the original icon on the tile part of the start menu but i found out how to change it.

It might not be the way you want but it does work. Go to C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\ "YourChromes version number here"\VisualElements
You need to change the Logo PNG and the SmallLogo PNG file. Restart windows explorer and pin Google to the start menu.
