How to manage (add/delete) the New Header on Settings Page

Recently, particularly since the start of the 20H2 roll-out, more and more users have been seeing the new Header area in the Settings page. Some have asked how to remove it, and some have asked how to add it to Settings.

Here is a simple method that will completely remove the Header Area and all it's data, or add it to the Settings Page with data available for that user.

These steps were extracted from a YouTube Video How to Enable or Disable Header Ad in Windows 10 Settings - YouTube

Thanks to @OldMike65 for the link and info.

    1) First, go to Github and download the ViveTool package as indicated here:

    Releases . thebookisclosed/ViVe . GitHub

    2) Move or copy the download to your desktop. Makes for easier working.

    3) Extract the Zip file to your Desktop.

    4) The contents of the extracted folder should look like this:

    5) If you watch the Video, parts of it go very quickly with the cursor dancing all over the screen, so I have captured the 2 command line arguments so they can be a copy/paste.

    options.txt

    Delete the Header .\vivetool.exe delconfig 18299130 1

    Add the Header .\vivetool.exe addconfig 18299130 2

    6) Open the Extracted Folder as shown in step 4.

    7) In the upper left corner of the Explorer window, click "File", then hover over "Open Windows Powershell", than click "Open Windows Powershell as Administrator"

    8) In the Powershell Window at the prompt, copy/paste either the delete option

    .\vivetool.exe delconfig 18299130 1

    or the add option

    .\vivetool.exe addconfig 18299130 2

    depending on your choice.

Press Enter, it will process. Enter Exit>Enter, or close PS window.

    9) Restart your machine.

    Notes:

    1. I have not been able to make this work on Insider builds. MS may have them locked down.
    2. This tool is similar in function to Mach 2. Mach 2 disables individual feature segments whereas ViveTool disables the entire feature. Mach 2 has not been working consistently lately. It will disable then come back.

    That's it. Done!

I am wondering if anyone who has already tried this tweak is experiencing some drawback. It is a known fact that if MS really wants this feature to stay the course, they will find a way to lock it down. It even seems that they are not so sure about what to do with it. They introduce it in 19H1, then removed in 20H1 build 18908 and finally reintroduced it again in 20H1 build 18922.

The only thing that was really bothering me was my name and email address showing in the banner. There is a way in settings to remove them. That is exactly what I did.

Microsoft introduced the Header section UI (some people prefer to say it banner ad) in Windows 10 Settings app homepage long time back but it was not activated or enabled for all users. First Header section was introduced in Windows 10 19H1 builds (check here). Later Microsoft removed the Headers section from Windows 10 20H1 build 18908. Again Microsoft re-added Headers section in Windows 10 20H1 build 18922 (check here)

Actually there are some tools available to manually activate and enable Headers section in Windows 10 Settings. These tools modify Windows to force it to activate the features. Personally I have not tried these tools yet as there might be side effects in modifying Windows code and shell.

Is there some practical reason to remove these from settings header area that I missed? It's always nice to know that I have this option, so thanks guys.

This tool and method is intended for those who would like to modify their Windows 10. Totally voluntary. Like hundreds or thousands of other modifications on the Forum, they involve modifying, or tweaking if your prefer, settings and registry entries. All done voluntarily. All come with an implied caveat.

There are many ways to do any given task, solve any given problem. This is only one.

TC just for a little more info....this method also works over two computers networked together. Windows version 20H2

I just moved the needed files over to a TEST dir on my 2nd pc, and ran the command like you posted and then had to reboot the networked pc. After it rebooted my setting page is clean and back to what I consider normal again. Did this from my main PC to my 2nd PC thru my network.

Just thought I'd tell you it works over a network also.
