I agree that it is very annoying when M$ moves features and complicates access for some odd reason that makes no sense.
Rather than making my life difficult, my process is simple. The first place I look for almost any M$ app or process is the taskbar search or Win X.
Yep, that's where I would go each time to fix it. But when you're doing that every few weeks, it gets pretty frustrating! Particularly so, if you remember that the app's long-time home, the "Display" category in Control Panel, used to be so easy to navigate to, with no "Search" necessary. We'll see if the GP tweak sticks.

    It will...

I used GPO since 2k to enforce anything on hundreds of machines and the changes never reverts. They are applied each startup... If I put you in the restricted user group.. loll... you wont change an icon from it's place.

I use GPO to prevent major upgrades and major GUI changes, it always works until "I Release it"

From all my modest experiences I can report the absolute consistency of that.

I've only started using Group Policy on Windows 10 recently, however; I've used Enterprise PCs for decades and have never witnessed any GP failures of any sort, none.

One of the great things about Windows 10 are the number of tweaks available.

Like this one for creating a shortcut to the screen saver settings.

I had the same problem and found it happened every time my Avast Free Antivirus program updates. Just had to go in to lock screen settings and change screensaver from "none" to the screensaver of my choosing in the dropdown menu. Avast updates happen about once a month so it's not a big deal. It never happens with Windows updates, only Avast.

I've never been able to establish any consistent cause. It's not Avast for me, because one just came through last night, and my "Ribbons" are still running. It's not Win 10 updates either, this Patch Tuesday didn't change a thing. On the other hand, something randomly tripped it over this past weekend, despite having gone the GP route after my last post. For now, I've just gone with the best fallback maneuver, which is W10Tweaker's "God Mode" shortcut. (Had to first disable the GP setting, for it to work, of course.) Makes a speedy fix for what is simply a small, recurring annoyance.

    Thanks.

I wish I could take credit for developing God Mode, however; I'm just another user/tweaker.

Oh, I know. It just helps to have a clearer head point you in the right direction, now and then. Which is why I belong to this Forum!
