    @Clasurol

    Thanks for the original (download no longer working) file you uploaded here:

    Classic Advanced Windows Color and Appearance Dialog Box

    That does what I need.

    You might look at:

    Thank you for this. I wonder if my Desk.cpl from WinXP will work in Win10. When you say you "reshacked" it, what did you do? And what modifications did you make?

    Thanks again!
    Reshacked is just a shorthand for "I edited it in Resource Hacker". Modifications I did were merely removing problematic features from the dialog that could can cause issues with W10, namely the Pattern selector (Patterns are bugged now on modern systems and it can get messy to revert the damage).

    Thank you. I actually have Resource Hacker. I've used it in WinXP, but haven't found a way to use it in Win10 yet. What I did in WinXP was to change the color of the active key in Regedit to green, so it was more easily visible. I tried the same thing in Win10, but was unsuccessful.

    What do you mean by active key? Do you mean the key in regedit's left pane?

    If so you can just change windows default yellow folder to something else and the active key shows up in the original yellow folder color.

    Or try a different way of navigating the registry;

    Registry Commander 15.02.15

    (Portable)

    Thanks, Chris. Yes, I meant the key in regedit's left pane. I'd rather not change the default color of folders. Registry Commander looks interesting. The only thing it doesn't seem to have is an undo list. I had a registry editor in WinXP, called RegistryMaster by Bruno Sonnino. However, his new registry editor for Win10 isn't as good, but the old one had everything you could imagine: Favorites, copy/paste/export/import, complete history with a multiple undo option, boolean search.

    Anyhow, thanks for the information. Is Registry Commander 15.02.15 the one you use?

    I just like it because it's portable and can save registry bookmarks.

    In the past I've also used this portable registry editor which saves history with muliple undo options and backup.

    Mostly I just use the built in regedit though.

    I should point out with that last one that you have to hightlight a history item in order to use the undo function.

    I've just tested this:

    Customize Colors in Windows 10 - WinTools.Info

    I could only change highlighted item in right pane but maybe that's because i'm using custom fonts in bold and a non system font (replaced system font)

    I suppose you could try it and it does offer to backup. There is also an option to restore default.

    I just got this:

    Changing the Color of the Context Menu & it's Font-registry-editor.jpg
