Even with your 'Choose your Default Windows mode' set to Dark?
I don't want the default set to dark. I don't like that display.

Welcome to the club... Set to (●) Dark now is the only way Window's will allow you to choose it.

If that's true, then it really sucks that I have to choose between continual dark windows or a consistently dark taskbar.

This caught everyone by surprise in the 1903 release a year ago. I found when I chose Dark it wasn't as 'Dark' as the name suggested.YMMV

I cannot select start, taskbar, & action center in color settings.

I guess it's been awhile since I changed my theme... now I wish I'd just left it alone. Why does MS think they need to make such decisions for us???

I have an idea. i have this, Translucent Taskbar installed, have for a while. This is one of the option for accent color on the taskbar.

Has lots of other nifty tweaks to the taskbar, too.

You can get the installable one here: Releases . TranslucentTB/TranslucentTB . GitHub

Or it's available as a Store App: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/tr...ot:overviewtab

I prefer the installed version, but either works just fine.
