    Needing Help Changing Folder Icons For 3D Object and Other Folders

    Windows 10 Home Version 1909

    I completely removed the "Navigation Pane" and now I would like to change the icons with the yellow folders behind them. I don't know if this is a weird question or not but is it (2) different icons or (1). Is it the main "3D Objects" icon in front of a "yellow Folder" icon. Or is it just (1) icon on its own.

    Plus since I don't use "Navigation Pane" right now I am not worried about changing those icons. So I just want to change these icons for now.

    Plus if I change those icons will that also change the icons that are currently listed in "Quick Access" under "frequent Folders". Or would I just need to remove them from there and then reopen them for it to take affect.

    I want to change these and only have icons not icons in-front of folders.

    >Edit: Plus I want to use my own icons for each thing as well.<

    There's an inateresting quirk here --- most likely due to the fact that the folders under This PC are a special kind of shortcut and not a normal file folder. If you view the Customize tab of the Properties dialog of a folder under This PC, there is no option to change the icon:

    But, if you navigate to the target folder's file system location, The Properties dialog does offer that option:

    And that's how you would custiomzie the icons for those folders. Folders customized in this way will have a hidden, system file named desktop.ini that contains the customization data. It's a normal text file with the .ini extension:
    Code:
    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21770
    IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-112
    IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
    IconIndex=-235
    [ViewState]
    Mode=
    Vid=
    FolderType=Documents
    Also, various system folders can acquire custom icons & display name from this regsitry key:
    Code:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID
    If you peruse the subkeys, you'll see this is where the Recycle Bin aacquires its 'Full' & 'Empty' icons, as well as the UserFiles folder on the Desktop. Many, but not all, shell folder GUIDs can be added here. You can even assign icons to the folder shortcuts under This PC that differ from the custom icon assigned to the taget file folder. Got that? Good!
