    Need some solid linux/wsl > windows registry help

    Yeap, no idea where else to turn on this one. I've spent a good 9 hours today, two purges/formats/image restorations on my pc's - all in an attempt to get this working.

    Ive used Proper Bash Scripting on Windows: Associate SH Scripts to WSL (Windows 10) (Enable drag-and-drop to .sh) (+other Linux Executables) - CodeProject his .reg files for quite some time to launch ubuntu/.bash scripts natively in windows 10.

    this one in particular
    open_with_bash_stay_open.reg

    Its still working well/as intended,, minus one important part. I'm running into an issue with the run-as-administrator option now. It used to open the ubuntu window asking for my sudo password. Now im greeted with this.

    I merged it into another pc, and the result was the same. Unsure what changed but i imagine something with the pathing in the reg file relative to the location of the ubuntu exe in windows or something? Or maybe not, perhaps some kinda newlyfound permissions issue.

    either way its present on 2 different pc's.

    If anyone can help me figure this out, i wouldnt even have words. Really after burning an entire day for whats so far amounted to nothing - im poised to offer $$ lol.

    @klepp0906

    @Kari is our local WSL guru - he'll be notified of this and have a look at this when he is able to.

    First, I really am not an WSL expert.

    That being said, let me first check i I understood this correctly. OP has no issues with when launched as normal local user, but some weird permission issue is preventing "run as administrator" to work.

    If so, I would first do a small test. If not already done, enable built-in administrator account, sign into Windows using it and now run your scripts. Do they work?

    I apologize. I have so many "issues" going simultaneously i had actually forgotten about this one. I did end up resolving it. turned out it was a permissions issue with the canonicalsoftware/ubuntu folder inside of the windowsapps folder.

    one day when i want to bark up that tree, i need to use a recovery disk and reset all those permissions to default. to prevent unforseen catastrophies in the future. I had to take ownership a loooooong time ago to get at an icon for a shortcut. Never posed a problem, no idea why it suddenly began to now, and only on some of the pc's.

    just one of those things.

    Comparing the offending vs non offending pc's - seems the folder was missing the "creator owner" group. Adding that and i could suddenly right click > run as admin on the ubuntu exe and the scripts.

    Good to know you got it resolved. It was clear that it was rather a Windows permission issue, than a script / Bash issue.
