Windows dimming lock screen image with some kind of gray overlay

Hi all,

Hope someone can help with a small annoyance with the lock screen image. It seems Windows is dimming the set image with some kind of gray overlay, making any image on the lock screen noticeably darker. I could not find any controls to modify this behavior. For instance if the lock screen image contains large areas of pure white, it will be rendered as gray.

This is probably already discussed somewhere on this forum but I can't find any info (probably I'm using the wrong keywords?). Anyways, if someone can direct me how to do this (preferably via a registry key) I would really appreciate it.

Thanks Jacee, but this is definitely not the case with the lockscreen dimming/darkening. Color filters will apply for the entire Windows environment as an accessibility feature. The issue* I have is that it darkens too much especially when large white areas are present.

Presumably the design objective was that the white time and date text would always be visible. I don't know if it's possible to change the amount of this dimming, but I can tell you that it dims by 20% (version 1909, 18363.657).

It's by design..., one of those 'top level window' things.

'Slide To Shutdown' dims even darker...

Thanks all for you input!

Now that I know is not possible to alter this feature, I will pass this info to our design team who can create a custom lock screen image with +20% or so increased brightness and avoid any large areas of pure white. I'm sure they will come out with something that will make our management happy lol
