How to: remove Explorer tabs, add Search in Start, expand Start menu

    Hello,

    I have three customization inquires (Win10Pro x64 1909):

    1. After removing the ribbon with RibbonDisabler some other options appear in the Explorer page.

They change from the type of folder, but they are like the ones below: Organize, System properties, etc.

How to: remove Explorer tabs, add Search in Start, expand Start menu-02.jpg

They seem to be related to right click context menus. I've tried removing Give access to that is present both in the top bar and the right click menu, but only the menu one was removed.

Removed the right click menu with this method:
Edit, Add, Remove items from New Context Menu in Windows 10

On Win7 there seems to be a solution, but haven't found one for Win10:
Remove the 'organize, include in library, new folder' bar in windows 7 Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

    How can they be removed?

    2. Upgraded recently from an older Win10 version, one that had Cortana in the Start menu.
I can add a search bar or a search icon in the taskbar, but can't add it to the Start menu.
    Can't Pin to Start.
Don't want Cortana necessarily, just Search, but in the Start menu.

    Is this possible in 1909?

    3. How to expand the Start menu horizontally to a custom size?
If I drag it to the right (menu is on the left), it snaps back to where the tiles are. Only if the horizontal dimension is double to that of the tiles does it stay. But then it's too large.
The tiles are expanded from Settings>Personalization>Start>Show more tiles on Start.

    Thank you.

Hi, the Start Menu is one area where MS sometimes makes changes from build to build; search is another especially in builds 1903 and particularly 1909 (where it gets lots of adverse comments).

    1. Cortana and search were separated in 1903. Cortana is now voice activated only - this is likely to change again in the future.
    2. No search bar in the start menu. But if you start typing with the Start Menu displayed, your text automatically is transferred to the search box.

    This is non-intuitive.

    3. If you want a configurable start menu that is more competent, but no tiles, try Open Shell (free) - combines best of XP Win 7 and more start menus with a search box you can configure. (If you install it you can still use Win 10's).

    4. Pinning to start menu- perhaps try
Re-register Start Menu in Windows 10

    3. How to expand the Start menu horizontally to a custom size?
How do you do that? Not supported AFAIK.

Vertically, it's a different matter - linear adjustment.

The typing while the start menu is up tip is really useful, thanks.

I've re registered the start menu, nothing changed. Was something supposed to change?

Just a basic step to see... unlike Open shell (free) - an excellent start menu with the best of XP and win 7 start menus and configurable search, + it handles deeply nested start menus (more folders) which no win 10 style menu does- Win 10's start menu is fragile.

One user fixed it in Pro - see post #10 - your problem may differ of course.
Cannot pin any items to Start

Is this what you're doing? or something else...

Don't think Start Menu is broken, just trying to add Cortana or Search as a tile in the start menu.
    It used to be there.

When right clicking Search the Pin to Start is not there.
Can't even find Cortana to right click on.

Cortana is voice only from 1903. You must enable Hey Cortana in Settings and talk to it.

Search and Cortana were separated in 1903.

It sounds like your description of pinning failing (i.e. anything you tried to pin didn't) was misleading, and actually you're trying to do something that just isn't meaningful- add search or some link to it in the Start Menu.

If you want a start menu with a search box:

    - Open Shell.
