Changing taskbar icons?

There is also a small utility called BMP2ICO that can convert any BMP image to ICO. That is not the point. I want to change the icons on the taskbar (next to the clock/date) and the folder icons etc. These are contained in these system files:

batmeter.dll contains all the battery icons (applicable for laptops)
imageres.dll contains the majority of system icons (folder, control panel icons etc)
pnidui.dll contains the network and Wi-Fi icons
sndvolsso.dll contains all the volume icons
stobject.dll contains the USB safely removal icon

All these system files are located at subfolder System32 inside the Windows folder in the boot drive C: (path c:\windows\system32)

With Customizer God you can export all the icons to ICO files from any EXE or DLL file. This is useful if you have Windows 7 or 8.1 and want to export their icons. You can then use Customizer God to replace the original icons from any EXE or DLL file with the icons you have extracted. Do not worry, there is a batch mode, you don't have to do it one-by-one. This worked up to Windows 10 version 1809, hence the need to "cheat" and replace the v2004 files with the patched v1803 or v1809 files. Fortunately I have kept the patched files in all my computers, so I can upgrade to the latest Windows 10 version and then replace the system files to get the icons I want.

Besides, you should appreciate and cherish those icons! The MS team put a lot of time and effort into designing those icons! They take top priority with every update!!!

These icons are basically application shortcuts. It should be easy to change them. If you cannot change the icon of the application, you can always create a new shortcut to launch the application and change the icon of the shortcut instead. To change the icon of a shortcut, right-click on it, select Properties and then change icon. If you have Classic Start or Classic Shell or Open Shell installed, you can create a shortcut of the application by right-click and select Create shortcut. Not sure if this is possible with the original Start Menu of Windows 10.

You can create an alternative shortcut and change the icon, but, when opened or pinned anywhere, it will show the default icon, which is written up in the Visual Manifest; there is no Properties dialog...

You could try to locate the EXE file in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps and change the icons using Customizer God. The folder WindowsApps is hidden, so you must set Windows Explorer to show hidden files.

For example, the EXE file to load Microsoft Jigsaw is Jigsaw.exe at the following path:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftJigsaw_1.9.1911.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe

I think this path is slightly different for every computer, but you get the idea.

Update: Just tried, this file contains no icons, it must be some other file, not sure which. But I found some icons in this path:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftJigsaw_1.9.1911.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Content\ApplicationAssets

Could replacing the icons in this path with custom icons of the same file name do the trick? I didn't try...
