    What was it before?

What exactly did you do after "I tried r-click-Desktop-Personalise but got nowhere."?

Night Light, Dark Mode, the list goes on... Just Head into Personalization and check, along with if your system has any type of utility that can override Windows Display properties.

I clicked Colors from Settings - found a totally non-instinctive page of various stuff. Tried double clicking a color under "windows Colors" but nothing changed.
There's other boxes to click but what might they do ? Not sure... so if anyone can tell me that'd be great. It was a sort of dark blue.. original default perhaps.
Now you need sunglasses, as it's a horrible bright light blue.

See Option Six in this tutorial.

Change Desktop Background in Windows 10

If you want the Desktop to be a solid colour of you choice (including black) see Option Six, Step 6.

Thanks Bree. I have now got a better color. It's a solid color though, no light shining through a window as it was. It'll do...better than that bright blue.
Why won't Microsoft just leave things alone instead of changing what you don't want changed ?

For the standard 'light through window' background, use Option Six, Step 5. If you see it in the 'Choose you picture' list, click on it. Otherwise, click the Browse button and browse to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows and select img0.jpg

The above is the 1903 version, up to 1809 it was darker but MS revised it for 1903.

If you are on 1903 and want the old version of img0.jpg, a Google search finds a number of sites that have a copy, such as this one: http://oswallpapers.com/wp-content/u.../06/img0-2.jpg

(open that link, right-click on the image and 'save as' to your Pictures folder, then you can set it as your background).

You had 1903 on the 2 PCs and wanted the old background back then? Glad I could help.
